Hey ever knowledgeable hi-fi forum people, I managed to get an eltax atomic 10.2 on the cheap but i'm not exactly sure how to hook it up to my amp (integrated stereo amp). The sub has speaker terminals and a line input. The terminals are labelled HF though?! I was advised to connect the amp to the speakers via the speaker terminals on the sub (the LF of the speakers)....is that the right way?

The sub should have two sets of speaker terminals on to connect the amp to and the other to connect from the sub to the speakers, so the sub sits inbetween the amp and the speakers 'in line'. The sub contains a crossover which will filter the low bass and then pass the mid and high end on to the speakers for them to do their stuff. The idea is that the two integrate. As bass is 'non directional' (not strictly true but it is LESS directional than other frequencies) then the fact the bass isn't over two speakers isn't too important.

The LF RCA ports you can see are for connecting an AV amp to so the sub can deal with the LFE (low freq effects) which are flagged up in a 5.1 soundtrack as specifically for the sub, a stereo amp can't do this, hence the crossover in the sub.

Hope that helps

There are 2 ways of connecting a Sub, Low level (RCA line in) or High level (speaker in/out)
The usual way of doing it these days is to take the RCA sub output from your Amp and connect it to the Sub.
If you havent got a Low level RCA Sub output on you amp you can connect the speaker cables to the Sub and then from the Sub to your speakers.
Id go with the RCA method if you Amp has the correct connections but you dont say what make/model amp youve got.

thanks guys...my amps a rotel ra-931 mk2. I've set it up through the speaker terminals. Works a treat. I think it's taking a bit of the midrange though....

yeah there is....i've put it on the lowest now and the extra oomph is really nice (if a bit too much at times) . It gives new meaning to "feeling" sound. It works a treat for music but when i try to play movies (24) theres a persistent low rumble......it's there most of the time?!

BTW took ** advise and got a pair of q55's for £120.......great speakers.

P.S. Do you know how i could go about fixing my jamos?
