Subwoofer

Would adding a subwoofer to my system benefit me in any way? It's something I've always considered but have never been sure about. Current sound rig runs off PC, with:

Emu 1820m Soundcard + breakout
Cyrus Mono X Power
Cyrus Mono X Pre
PMC FB1+ Floorstanders

How do they plug in? It's been ages since I looked at upgrading hi fi. And how important is it to match the quality of my other hardware?

Thanks for that lucid. I'm just enquiring for the near future, I don't have enough to spend atm. I would probably look to spend £900 to £1,500 which is probably proportionate to the rest of the system. Happy to go 2nd hand as well.
