just built a new to me opty 146 rig :)

running oh so weet at 2.9 ghz damn what a chip now i see why people raved about them so much

fan bleeding tastic on a asrock dual sata with a crap mismatched pair of 512 sticks :)


wonder what she'd get on a decent mobo with proper ram :) :)
on air and stock cooler btw a bit toasty at 44 C
 
well thats 44C sitting in a case with no panels on lol
expect that to climb(although a freezer 64 will be on its way soon enough along with some decent ram
 
Nice clock dude! Optys are great - one of my mates got his to 3.1 and I have to say it flew.

You say you've got the aftermarket cooler on its way, so if that's with the stock heatsink - you're doing very well! With the Freezer, you might get a bit more out of it :cool:

Probably because that would have meant going to DDR2 memory? I know a lot of people who are holding off due to that.

That's why I'm holding off, plus the cost of a new motherboard and the fact i'd have to ditch my 7900gts unless I opted for a some hacked drivers.

In other words, conroe is a £500 move that'll shave 12-14 seconds off my superpi 1m time at the expense of a lot of GPU power.

(though now I think about it I can recoup most of the £500 by selling my cpu, ram, motherboard and a single 7900gt).
