Hi all Just been talking to a friend thats been having a problem with "sugar addiction" now this sounded kind of funny to me but then again I find these kind of things funny anyway. But I just wondered what other people thought.

I mean I think that that to much sugar is bad but I havent seen many people sat on a street corner eating a bag of sugar to feed there addiction :D:D.

I dont believe in sugar addiction, just people with no self control. (Though I may be wrong  )

AFAIK, there are no chemicals in there that are addictive, such as nicotine in cigarettes.

You could possibly become reliant on the sugar intake depending on metabolism and lifestyle, i.e. needing really high sugar intake to keep energy levels up but to actually become addicted to it in the medical term is probably impossible.

Carbs will tend to release serotonin when taken in (feel good hormone) which will always make you feel better, some people are very sensitive to it. As to an addiction to them, try stopping ALL carbs for a week. Carb withdrawl headaches are similar to breaking a caffiene habit.

Could also be an insulin rollercoaster caused by sugar intake. Energy drops so they take in some sugar, insulin shoots up, carbs get stored, energy drops, they eat more sugar etc.

You certainly can get sugar addiction. I would imagine most people have it without realising. If you don't have sugar you get tiered and have massive hunger cravings.

However it's not hard to break. No sugar for 3 days and you feel so much better. Just at healthy things often to combat the sugar cravings.

I stand corrected, wasn't aware of that at all. Not sure how it compares medically to a drug addiction? I see the symptoms are similar but is it psycological or a chemical imbalance? Some of the information there seems to say chemical addiction (weird but hey) but the experiment on the mice seems to show addiction possibly psycologically?

They make Cake from sugar you know. One young kiddie on Cake cried all the water out of his body. Just imagine how his mother felt. It's a ******* disgrace.

It's both, it's chemical because of the endorphins and insulin balance. But it's also very psychological as well. So easy to get it with modern diets.

Try having a garlic addiction and going on the pull :(
Now think whether a sugar addiction is as bad ;)
Just thought that to have a sugar addiction one must be eating a whole lot of tosh and pap in order to attain such high sugar levels.
Does your friend have skin problems?

I seem to have a lager addiction. I'm not classed as an alcoholic as it doesn't stretch to other forms for alcohol.

I got really into Dandelion and Burdock sugary drink last month and at the same time I lost 10Kg over 3 months. It turns out that I am now diabetic :0. I've not had chocolate or fizzy drinks for a month now and have cut down on cakes, so I have lost another 2Kg, just as well that I was a podgy git at Christmas!
