Hi All,

I currently use a set of Logitech Z5500 in my lounge as my sound system, Optical from Sky +HD and PS3 and Analog direct from my HTPC.

Just after xmas my center speaker stopped working in my lounge... i have another z5500 set in my office/games room, i took the console/amp unit from my office and used it in the lounge and the center speaker worked! so... the console was faulty, i contacted logitech and once i finally agreed to send the z5500 back they replaced them with the newer Z906 which i wasn't too pleased about from the reviews i had read etc. well i have the 906's in the office and they don't seem all that bad.

The center speaker is now not working again! so i am going to have to go through the same system and have them replaced with the Z906's.

I am trying to work out if i should use the Z906's or sell them on brand new and put the funds towards something else.

Can anyone help here?

If you can get your PC games to play out via optical/coax or HDMI then consider a home cinema amp + 5.1 speaker package. It would be the next logical step up.

Onkyo, Yamaha and Pioneer all do single-make starter packages of an AV amp and speaker kit. There are also mix 'n match packages put together by retailers.

Hi mate,
I wont be needing these speakers for gaming, they will be for use with Sky TV and my HTPC/XBMC, i have a Asus Xonar D2X so i am sure this can support optical out.

I would be looking at around £400, sell the new Z906 for around £200 and ill put another £200 to it +/- a few £

Well, start off looking at the Onkyo HTS4505 for £300 discounted at the national Hi-Fi/AV retailers Richers or Super-Fi. It's thoroughly decent and has all the essential features (ARC, 3D, active sub, enough power to annoy the neighbours ;) ) and a good platform for future upgrades should the AV surround-sound bug bite deep.

More money (<£200) buys mostly extra features and also some improvements in build quality and performance. Decide if you need the extra inputs, Apple/Android mobile phone control, network streaming, extra power, smaller speakers etc etc.

Really, this is one of those times when an hour spent with a retailer finding out a) what's available b) what's important to you, is far more useful than hours spent trawling the net for other peoples opinions. Go book a dem and have some fun. :)
