Suggested cooling for the 5900x?

So I was going to buy the 5900x, and I still am.

But now I'm stumped - what cooling to buy? Was only going to use the stock wraith, but now it doesn't come with one. What would people recommend for a low end cooler?

Alternatively, how much more performance would you get out of a middle of the road cooler? At what sort of cost?

It'll do the job, but is it worth 20% of the card, Vs something further down the range? (Also have a moderate fear of water in my PC. It killed a P3 that was dear to my heart...)

Grab this while it's still in stock - only 2 left:

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £38.69 (includes shipping: £8.70)

Well, here's what I'm planning to do:

At the moment I have a 2700X using the "stock" Waith LED cooler that came with it. However I'm now toying with the idea of fitting my Noctua NH-D14 (with newer fan) that I used for my 970BE for the 2700X (the TDP is lower on the 2700X than on the 970 which I have just found out). The cooling by the Noctua D14 was pretty good on the 970: I seem to recall I plugged the fans into the CPU header and sys_fan1 header of the board I was using and set the fans speed to 1200RPM: it was mostly silent (at the time, I was also using a CoolerMaster HAF, and I'm sure I had more noise from that than the CPU cooler).

I would say both Noctua coolers are more mid to high end CPU coolers. The D14 also quite big so please double check your CPU cooler clearance before even thinking about hitting that "buy" button, and therefore I would also urge caution with the D15 as well.

My BeQuiet Dark Rock Pro 4 keeps my 3700X cooled with barely any fan speed, if push comes to shove I'll just up fan curve slightly on 5800X

The 3700X is a 65-watt CPU. Technically, you can put it in a tight notebook chassis and still pursue not very high temperatures.

Wait, what?? Shows how out of touch I am. :(

Stick with cheap air cooler. The Arctic Freezer for just £30 is rated for 200-watt CPUs :D

Why would you spend £500 on a CPU and put a cheapo cooler on it?

CPU's boost higher and for longer with better cooling, moving from my old noctua d14 to a 360m AIO I felt was well worth it.
Because I had planned to upgrade the cooler later, once I'd recovered from the sticker shock - and when games were using more of the available performance.

I'm happy sitting on crap cooling while The Beast quietly games at a load of 50% or so. Upgrades to cooling are something i could take more slowly.

Edit, double quote

Remember you'd also need to get the AM4 mounting kit for the D14

You won't be able to get it until at least November, just relax and won't for gamers nexus to tear it down and give you some idea on thermals.

Already obtained - though I want 4 pin fans for it rather than the stock 3 pin fans (which I've already decided on which ones I'm getting) but thank you for the reminder
How did you get that, don't you have to send them copies of receipts for the original and new processors to get a different mounting kit

That's if you want to go with Noctua for getting the kit. The requirement is AM4 CPU/motherboard invoice and your Noctua cooler invoice or photo with your address on the Noctua cooler.

Alternatively, OC sell it themselves (this is for the D14 and other coolers, so please ensure that you choose the right kit as there are multiple kits): https://www.overclockers.co.uk/noctua-nm-am4-mounting-kit-hs-037-nc.html

Deepcool assassin 3 or Noctua NH-D15 if you want to go air cooling. they are on par and nothing beats them for air cooling at the moment.
