I was recently lucky enough to purchase a second hand HAF 932 for only £30! It had been previously modded, but only a paint job on the inside where the paint ran in a few places and where he didn't fully remove the dust before spraying, so a great result. So, I am looking at getting a bit of modding done, this is my current list of mods I will be doing:

  • De-riveting, rubbing down and respaying case interior and rear black
  • Rub down and respray running paint on right side panel
  • Cut large window on side panel, where the side fan and small window goes
  • Trim the window to make it look like the window sticks out the side
  • Paint the PSU stand, mesh covering front fan and expansion slot covers red
  • Modify some fractal design fans by painting them red and adding LEDs
  • Backlight the drive bay covers with rec CCFL lights
  • Light the case with two large red CCFLs

Pretty simple, but any more suggestions would be appreciated! I also need a very quiet but effective fan to cool the rad on my CoolIT Vantage which I was lucky enough to win!

I look forward to seeing your ideas.

Cardboard box mod to hide those looks. Not a big fan of the HAF cases.

I wonder if it were possible to mod the front to take away the Rather angular and blocky feel to the drive bays.

Lighting sound good though.

If you go to the hassle of de-riveting like I did I'd get a powder coater to do all the panels, I go the lot done in matt black for £45, nearly as cheap as DIY painting!

Just makes sure to re-rivet with black rivets!

Does make it look a LOT better, even tho the 932 is a beauty to begin with!

Wow, £45! What bits did you get done and what sort of establishment was it (ie. vehicle painting)? Defiantly worth considering!

I had all the parts coated including the 3.5" bay adapter! Broke down into 14 parts I think, easy as poop to drill the rivets out and took about an hour to re-rivet.

The only downside was the hard drive mounts ha to be filed down a bit due to the extra paint thickness, but other than that it was all ok.

I used a local enamellers, just try calling around a few local metal finishers, I'd expect to pay under £60!

I have dropped a couple of smaller firms an email and hopefully I will get a decent quote. Did you take your case to them to get a quote? If not how did you best explain the parts? I have included these pictures:

I explained the material and condition of the panels as well as which bits needed both sides coated and asked them them about the prices of having some done matte black and some done red. Hopefully they can give me a rough estimate and we can take it from there!

I sent them a pic and the overall chassis dimensions, I also separated the PCI and back panel metal from the rear panel. Had a quick 36hour turnaround too, but I arranged it a week in advanced to get it done while I was on holiday!

I didn't even prep it, took it down and it was prepped.

I'd recommend calling a few of them, metal workers are awful at responding to email!

You'll probably pay more if it's not a colour they are working with, but they should have black prepped, as for red it may or may not cost a bit more!

Powdercoated finish is well worth the cost!

Them pictures are not actually of my case as I have not de riveted mine yet. I guess I will have to get the paint stripper out and remove the current paint in there. I will call a few tomorrow morning and see what I get!

I think I will de-rivet today so I can see exactly what I am working with and so I can give the powder coaters a better idea on dimensions. I will take pictures as I go and may make a project log of it, although it is not an epic mod like some of the others!

What size drill bit and rivet did you use?

I used a 3.2mm drill bit to de-rivet.

Rivets used:
-3.2x8mm Black dome heads (about 80% of the rivets)
-3.2mmx7.5mm Black countersunks (some rivets in the 932 were countrsunk, you could use domes but I chose to get some csks).

I sourced the black domes off ebay and got the black countersunks fairly easily after ringing a rivet specialist off the net (they aren't east to find in black!), where I could have got all of them had I been cleaver enough to call them first!

De riveted now, a lot of rivets but was pretty fun and I didn't have any problems even though it was my first time. Who did you get the countersunk rivets from?

Try Rivetwise, I'm assuming they aren't a competitor ;-) ~£7 for the rivets (100) + ~£7 postage. They also do dome heads fairly cheap.

You'll need to ring them and ask for3.2mmx7.5mm black countersinks though, but they do hold stock. 3.2mmx7.5mm would also do you in domed.
