I'm considering upgrading the storage in my iMac by installing a SSD for the system disc and replacing the existing mechanical with a storage disc. And I wondered if either of the available SSDs I had would suit, or if something newer would be a better choice.
I realise there are other factors to take into consideration and that Sata II has its limitations, but would either of these two be a 'better' or equal performer than a newer SSD?
Intel X-25M 160GB with an unknown controller and 250 MB/s read and 100 MB/s write.
Lite-On LCT-256M3S with a Marvell controller and up to 520MB/s read and 430 MB/s write.
And when it comes to a mechanical, what's the better choice - something like a Caviar Black or a more 'efficient' drive like a Caviar Green?
Data stored on the drive will be a mixture of various audio files as well as images and videos, so we're probably looking at least 1TB and possibly 2, depending on cost.
