Hi all,

Was wondering if you could give me some suggestions on turned based games, such as Civilization, Spartan, Gates of Troy and similar? Tried to do a search but couldn't find anything.. since it picked the word games I got more or less the whole PC Games forum threads back on the search! (Does anyone know how you do a search on several words when searching?) Want to play something new, but not to old if that makes any sense.. so, any suggestions?

Civ4: BTS ( inlcudes a ****load of mods which are each seperate games more or less).
Civ4: Colonization ( remake of the original col)
ST: TNG: Birth of the Federation ( still very good, shame it's not 100% stable).
Worms Armageddon ( make sure to get the latest patch to play online and have a ton of new features which aren't even in WWP and for xp and vista support).
Chess ( speaks for itself)
Campaign part of any total war game is turn based, make sure to try Rome: Total war, medieval 2 total war or empire total war.
There are a few more but they don't spring to mind atm...

Haven't tried em but europa universalis and hearths of iron 2 are both tbs iirc.

Try some of the Paradox games...

Hearts of Iron 2, Victoria, Europa Univeralis, I know they aren't turn based, but they are slow and in depth they really may as well be. You can also pause the game whenever you wish.

I discovered them recently and have purchased pretty much every paradox grand strategy game and expansions :) I love them.

If you want something a bit simpler, try Total War. (Med 2, Empire is too buggy at the moment)

Can;t beleive you've all missed the greatest:

Alpha Centauri with the expansion Alien Crossfire!

Almost ten years later and still going strong.

Galactic Civilization II - buy this now.

much better than Civ

That's exactly what I was going to add. Brilliant game. You could also try starting off with Galactic Civ I as playing both will give you more to get through and the first game has a shallower learning curve. Both are really good. II is better, but a bit harder to get into and a bit more unforgiving - imho anyway.
