Suggestions on new build - Using Adobe creative suite, bit of 3d work etc

Completly missed it was a rom, yeah looking at the pioneer and the lg at the moment.

Found this info on cuda support, so will probably go for a cheaper card.

"Will Adobe block this unlock procedure in the future?
Adobe engineers have said publicly on the Adobe forums, that they will not block the hack. The reason is, this is how THEY need to additional support for new cards and according to them, they will be in the future. They didn't hard code the video card list into Premiere CS5, the simply have it in a text file. This allows Adobe to add new supported cards easily, without having to rewrite and recompile the code for Premiere CS5. When Adobe does an update on Premiere CS5, they may replace the cuda_supported_cards.txt file like they did when they issued update version 5.02 and 5.03. When that happens, simply unlock the video card again following the above steps 1 through 19."

Beejjacobs was on a thread with me similar to this yesterday. I'm not saying he's stolen the cuda idea from me.....but he has! ;) lol (Hi Beej btw!)

The idea was to get the i5K and overclock it to get it's max potential. The 460 isn't certified but cuda does work with adobe as your research has shown. The idea is that the i5K OC'd and the 460 should work out similar to the price of just the i7K and still give you similar performance, if not better we hope with cuda support.

Your going to use a Z series mobo i assume. The added benefit of using the i5 and 460 is that the mobos lucid virtu will kick in making clever use of the IGP aswell.

The 460 is still a capable budget gaming card too which is a lovely bonus. There is nothing stopping you pairing it with the i7 CPU if you feel you need the hyperthreading from that CPU. Or indeed opting for a more powerful certified GPU.

It's your cash buddy, spend it however you choose. I just thought the i5K and 460 being cheaper than the i7+GPU would leave more money in the budget for extra components....SSDs, large storage HDD,watercoolers etc etc :)

P.S Beej!! You forgot about the Zalman Z9 plus case again ;)

oh no! Well, at least you're here to clear up after me :P

Hey :P Let's be fair, i think someone at Nvidia thought of CUDA not you. haha.

Haha busted! :)

I really like your build on post #7. Like you say he could spend less on the GPU and get a 460/560ti. Either pocket the cash or throw in another drive for storage, like i say the possibilities are endless in custom builds. :)

Nice work Beej!
