suitable card for cod4 at MAX settings

To be honest, anything higher than 4AA is silly,in my opinion, I personally can't tell the differcen, allbeit a small one, between 4 AA and 16AA.

I have my 8800GTX (600/2000) running it at around 50fps on 1920x1200, maxed out graphically, insane corpes ect...4AA/AF and it runs fine, even in the built up areas with smoke ect...

If you did want even more antialiasing, then perhaps a dual card/gpu solution might be needed.

no card will play it at what i consider you need 125 fps for online play.well not max res and settings.my mate has crossfired xts and he gets about 90 fps at most on 16x10 res with things set mostly to the higher end but couple of things not on.if single player then just get a 8800gt or gts

I dont agree there! I have a GTX which is overclocked to 630/1520/2000 and it cuts through textures like butter at HQ textures no optimisations at 16xAF forced in control panel. The GTX benefits because of its 384bit memory interface, textures dont really bother it, its AA especially quality or true multisampling AA that kill it at higher res. To be honest I dont really notice any visiual difference between 4 and 8xQ at 1680x1050. I can run COD4 though at HQ 16xAF and 8xQ AA at 1680x1050 no bother!, overiding game settings in nVidia cp (all game settings are maxed out anyway) Go for a GTX OC value and OC that baby to BFG OC2 speeds! 626/1450/2000 its a steal! :D I can also run Crysis at again max textures (HQ 16xAF) and no AA at 1680x1050 at a respectible 35fps ;) Happy gaming!

Try to run it at 1680x1050 at 16QxAA, 16xAF, supersampling in a map full of grass, tree with everything maxed out in game and see if your FPS is still over 30. I've got a GTX 600/1900 and at that setting the framerate is barely playable.

Mine was a little jerky at 1680 X 1050 with AA and max detail....hence I went up to the 3870X2

Really? On a Q6600 G0 also at 3.4 here, 8800GT 700/1750/1900, 4GB ram, Vista 64.. Can't say i've ever noticed any jerking at 1680 x 1050 x4AA whatsoever. Unless you're talking higher than 4AA?

Infact, just booted it up then, accidentally had Stalker running in the background, and it still seems ok.

For some reason mine is jerky unless I put the gfx option to 2 GPUs...dunno why as I currently am only running a single 3850.

As the sun rises, I see that another day has gone by and still I am no further in my quest for fulfilment. Perhaps I will never know, my brain suggests as much, but in my heart there still lies an innocent hope that one day I will feel richer and content. I will not be forsaken.

I have to ask the OP, did you mean "max in game settings"? Because I am struggling to understand how people are trying to push £200+ hardware on you for one game, and there are people even talking about Oblivion...

Even a 3850 should run it fine, but to be on the safe side, get 3870 or 9600GT. The Nvidia cards seem to do a little better in this game. But if this is the only game you are interested in running, then no need to spend a load of unnecessary money on something liek a GTX.

Anything over 4X AA not really needed unless you spend more time looking for jagggies than playing the game, or taking screenshots and blowing them up to inspect in minute detail to compare...

My 8800GT was at stock, as I didn't like the temps when I clocked it to 670Mhz (core) and the lack of fan control (couldn't get rivatune to work properly) just made me think twice.
New card plays it just fine
