I'm in the market for a suitable desktop replacement for gaming and general purpose. My budget depends solely on what I can obtain for my current gaming desktop. I'm not looking for an equivalent in terms of performance, but something that can play current games comfortably. A 1080p display is not a must, although Blu-ray would be a welcome addition.

I'm not sure if anyone can shed any light on what I can expect to fetch for my current gaming desktop.
The specifications are as follows:

Core i5 750 @ 3.44GHz
4GB DDR3 1333MHz
ATI HD5870 1GB GDDR5
1TB 7200RPM

LG 22" Display @ 2ms
G11 Gaming Keyboard
G9 Gaming Mouse

I've been looking at the XPS 17 on the Dell outlet, and the reasonably priced Medion Erazer X6815 with the following specs:

Intel® Core™ i7-2630QM processor, Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium, NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 555M DirectX® 11 graphics, 500GB hard drive, 4GB RAM, USB 3.0, Bluetooth® 3.0, Dolby Home Theater® v4, fingerprint sensor, Blu-ray, 39.6 cm/15.6" full HD display
£699 incl. VAT

Any alternatives would be most welcome.

Defo Dell XPS 17 great machine , would recommend . Dell are doing deals at moment

Got a Dell XPS 17 with the GT 555M for my step-son a few months back, goes like a rocket, excellent graphics for a laptop, came with 6Gb and another 500Gb HDD extra, the machine is quite bulky though, you'll need a new carry bag.
