Hi all , first post here but ive been lurking on and off for a while now and finally decided to register.

Im currently looking to upgrade my gpu as id like a few more frames in BF3 whilst the game runs ok with what im running now my gpu is at %100 usage so i gather i could get a bit more from a better gpu.

My current specs are

Fx 8120 @4.4 , 8 gig ddr3 and a hd 5850 @ 775 , 1115 . led 24 @1080p

Got no real limit on what i would spend but dont want to get a gpu that may be bottleknecked by my cpu so ideally i would want one that goes with the cpus performance / matches it .Dont want to go overkill as im looking at building a new pc in 12 to 18 months .

Can anyone suggest a gpu that would be a nice upgrade from the 5850 but wouldnt be held back too much from the cpu, Thanks

id get a GTX 680, wont be bottlenecked and is an awesome card :)
I have the 8150 at 4.60ghz and al my games run smooth and gpu usage is pretty much always maxed.

Thanks for the reply, posted here as not to start a new thread but i've been thinking about getting a card for the time being and maybe upgrade to a new build with everything replaced next year.

At the moment im looking at the 7850 and the 7870 and trying to work out if its worth paying the £30 or £40 difference to get the 7870 over the 7850 i know it has more shaders but does this make much of a difference ?

I was looking at the cards and its allways a case of spend another £40 or £50 and get the next one up but if i did that id be getting a 7970 or 680 lol so i've narrowed it down to the two gpu's above only

I dont mind overclocking either card and the only game i really play right now is bf3.

Any words of advice anyone can offer me

thanks

The thing is I don't see the 7870 being £30-£40 more expensive than the 7850 (not counting the 7850 1GB version)...it is more like £25 more. Personally if the price difference is only £30 or less, I'd go for the 7870.

Don't bother with the GTX 680 as it's only about 5% faster than a GTX 670, and even then a 7950 is better value.

Is the 7870 Worth £30 / £40 more than the 7870? well it's about 15% performance difference, sometimes a little less than that, sometimes a little more.

Most would say it's not worth it, i would agree with that.

I bought one anyway :)
