Hi all,
As the outside temp rises my poor rig can't keep up. she is sitting at 40c-42c even when doing very little and up to 55c when gaming. As far as I can tell i have three options

reduce my clock - that would make me sad :( but can do as a last resort

replace my fans - I currently have a antec 1200, which as far as i know is one of the best air cooling cases around so it would seem sensible to work to my strengths. Im currently running on all stock fans so i feel there could be some room for improvement there. Im not too fussed about the noise so cooling over sound any day.

Go to watercooling - not sure if this would improve my temps by much even with a fairly high spend, but it could be a lot quieter.

So suggestions? either spec me some fans or watercooling if you think its worth it. If WC I don't wanna spend much over £500 (nothing would be better)

Thanks Guys!!

p.s rig in the sig :)

Is heat making it unstable?

Do you plan to overclock more?

If the answer is no, then your temps, although high are fine.

Even with my superb watercooling my cpu goes to 59C but then again that's at 4.84Ghz ;)

My point is that your temps are fine and nothing to worry about for the rig you have.

So keep you money although I accept donations for good advice ;)

EDIT: One other thing, how many volts do you have going through the cpu? My cpu will do 4Ghz at less than stock volts and 3Ghz at just over 1v. If you have left your bios to auto, chances are it will be putting far more volts through your cpu than it needs for stability. You certainly ought to be able to run at your VID voltage at 3.7Ghz. Just an idea.

can't remember what volt im running at tbh - was a while back i did it...
the system is perfectly stable but I would like to push for the big 4.0 but I couldn't sustain prime at that clock - it got to hot and I always closed it.

Again will have to check when i get home, had the rig 6 - 8 months and am quite forgetful. will update OP when i know more

Just remembered the basic settings for my clock were donated by fishfishfish - although I had to tweak a little bit to get stable these are pretty accurate:

CPU Ratio Setting = 8.5
FSB Frequency = 440
FSB Strap to NB = 400
DRAM = 1146
DRAM timing = Manual
CPU voltage = 1.29375
DRAM voltage = 2.2

I have an Antec 1200 and watercooling my CPU...trust me with the way the weather is right now, you will get higher temps on your CPU than normal...my temps can idle at 35C (lowest has been 33C) and when gaming dont go higher than 50C.

But with the heat, idle temps are at about 41+C and hitting almost 60C when gaming. Just so u know i have an i7 920 running at 4GHz.

i underclocked my cpu not by much tho from 3.51 to 3.33

but the 0.14v needed to get past that crater was too much for me so i had to knock it back:(

tbh i would be happy even at 3ghz

Dont think you have much to worry about there really. Mines sitting at around 39-41 on idle with this heat and Intel burn test will run it up to 70c. Runs flawlessly all day long at these temps.
