Summer Rider or Commuter?

I commute when the weather is alright. However, as I started biking for a bit of fun, I reserve the right to jump in the car if conditions are not agreeable. :)

Yep weekend biking for me also and only when the sun is out. Totally agree about the state of the roads, the idiots on them who regularly try to kill me and plods ever increasing victimisation campaign.

Track days both home and abroad are where I get most enjoyment now to the point where I am going to build a track only bike and stop using the roads altogether.

Off to do trackdays at Jerez , Almeria and Aragon next week :D:D

I'm only a summer rider, but have got a summer job when back from uni so I've been commuting on it tool, as I have no other transport, but only rain riding.

Riding in the rain may not be nice, but it does make you more comfortable with the tyres, despite my tyres being ****e in the wet, and V twin engine braking makes for some good fun...

Currently, and unfortunately, I'm only a summer power ranger at the moment. I simply have no time to ride at the moment, 'living' out in Germany, but busy back in the UK on some courses means I barely get any time around my bike. I rode it for the first time in months last week, and now I won't get to ride it again till September/October, then after than till next year, sucks big time!

Used to ride all the time every time, since moving to uni and not having access to my bike I've resorted to using the car a little more in crap weather lately...

However it also depends on the bike, when I commute on my 1950s BSA I tend to stick to nice weather, VFR is an any weather bike!

Summer rider here.

I use to use it all the time for getting to and from work but in the winter it was just stupid, lashing it down with rain, freezing cold, pitch black, flooded back roads was not worth the hassle.

And as others say it does take it's toll on the bike a little leaving it out in all weathers and then having to ride home on it.

I ride because I enjoy it, I don't enjoy it in winter.

Ride all year round, commuting 20 miles each way for 9 years, 4.5 years on my Gilera Nexus 500 (Don't sneer or laugh, you can't knock something till you actually try it ;) ).

Only lost 7 days of riding this last winter because of about 10 cm deep snow had turned to solid ice over a 20m patch where I have to get my scoot out of enbloc garages and I didn't want to drop it, during this I caught the train to work.

Having a fully faired bike stops most corrosion especially if you spray the internals with ACF50 in summer, grease up electrical connectors, plenty of copper grease on bolts and a 5 minute rinse down after every ride in non dry weather. Of course decent winter gear to stop inclement weather ingress and freezing your nuts off.

Proper maintenance is key to bike survival regardless of whether or not your a Solar Power Ranger or Tough All Weather B*****D :D

I'll ride all year round but if there is snow I'll use the car or pushbike both of which I have winter tyres for. Work sadly is not accessible by public transport, else I really doubt I'd own a car.

Everyday if I can eg not in snow and ice - which basically meant up here I was off from November to late Feb this year.

25 mile round trip. I have gortex textile jacket and pants.

Hands do get cold in the winter!

Only a fair weather rider here due to that i have access to a car and don't feel there to be any need in getting wet and cold. But since riding to work when its been nice and cutting heaps of time off of my travel its beginning to get very tempting to ride all the time now but will need to buy the gear and not prepared to at the moment!

I much prefer riding in dry weather but I don't care about the cold. I'll take the bike if there's only showers but if it's torrential I'll take the car and suffer the traffic

I work close to home now, but just over a year ago I was commuting to work in the snow and ice on a Zx9R.

The funny thing is, I made it, where as the roads were that bad some people in cars didn't.

It take the best part of an hour to do 17miles though. Overtaking an Integra on the way.

In general i love riding. Be it pour down with rain or in the sun, it makes no odd, just dress for the occasion.

i used to be a commuter.... for about 6 months lol... i can't last that long without having a big 'event' it seems. be it a ban, points or a a crash lol.

riding in the rain is great as it teaches you about smooth riding so no snappy bits etc. :)
