Jesus....it's been a slow page. :p We should get something rolling, i'm very much looking forward to seeing Ozil play. Interested to see how Hughes turns out as well, he was a great player. Stoke are meant to be playing much better football under him already, it'll be a big game for them at home. Think they may snatch a draw...

Any stokes fans here seen much of them?

Iirc i think our next game is against Sunderland then we play Stoke. Im really hoping that they have cut out all that physical football that they used to play under Pulis.

Cant say i have seen them play under Hughes but jusding by their table position, they arent doing too well.

Not sure what the last bit means, 2 wins out of 3, joint with us on points, unless you meant to type aren't doing badly?

Either way, they'll still be physical till they get rid of a few more players. But they seemed to very noticeably pass the ball around more, play actual wingers and try to play some real football. I would assume that general theme will continue over time, but till certain players are gone and a relatively large number of Pulis's squad is replaced they'll be pretty physical for some time to come.

I think they looked fairly poor in the first game, away from home IIRC< and significantly better at home. With a lot of teams and particularly with the Stoke away mentality... they'll probably try and improve their football at home, pass more, attack more, push for more possession but that away mentality will probably continue, ugly/physical draws away from home but trying to pass at home.

Well this is a summer transfer window thread. Summer is gone :(

Speaking of Stoke, I'm looking forward to seeing how Arnautovic does. He's...a character. Everyone used to rave about him back when he was at Twente. The praise went to his head, I think, and he went all 'Niklas Bendter'. Certainly a different type of player than we've become accustomed to seeing from Stoke.

I said at the time that I was pleasantly surprised at how simple the Carroll to West Ham deal was considering his form and more importantly fitness over the last 2 years, and now I'm guessing West Ham might be having a few regrets. After missing the start of the season through injury, it's now being reported that he could be out for several months with a new injury.

Alladyce is such a tool, he's doing somewhat the same as Comolli, well, very much the same with Cole, Downing and Carroll :p

Cole and Downing are likely currently under rated(due to a few terrible years) but really the only issue with them both, and Carroll for that matter, is massively overpriced/overwaged for the actual quality those players have. West Ham could have spent all the cash they've spent in the past 6-7 years SOOO much better it's hilarious. Carroll was completely the wrong player, I think Chamakh could happily have done a job they just refused to actually give him games to get some form.

He did try to get Bendtner which was smart, but was fighting an idiot of a manager who doesn't want to use Bendtner, nor does he want to lose him.

Carroll though as you say after his time at Pool and last year with West Ham, how they went ahead and spent so much on him when his injury record is really quite poor I don't know. I still can't see what LIverpool would have done if West Ham refused to go above 5mil, Liverpool would have eaten it and sold him anyway, likewise if they only offered Carroll 60k or something, again what other options did he have around. He might have gotten a few mil in pay off from Liverpool so they could get rid of him.

West Ham were WAY to eager to throw money at Pool and Carroll for a player no one else really wanted.

Ahh, yeah..Arsenal shouldn't have any trouble v sunderland. Not sure whats going on at sunderland tbh, they haven't started too brightly. Di Canio needs to get something out of that game if he wants to salvage a half decent start to the campaign. Money will definitely be on Arsenal though to get the win..

Yes apologies, typed it in a rush. But yes they arent doing too badly Stoke but early days yet and they havent really had any stern tests, first will be against us in a couple of weeks time.

So, Liverpool fans, what's Joao Texeira like? Just got him on loan until the new year. Seems to be highly regarded by your staff.

When we signed him it was said to have been a great signing that we only managed to make due to some financial difficulties at Lisbon and them implementing a regulation where they could only give 3 youth players pro deals each year. It turned out he had a serious back injury though and that stopped him playing for the best part of a year iirc.

Last season he settled into the u-21 side and has been fairly impressive but I personally can't see him making it with us. Although he's played in a deeper role in midfield for our u-21's, he's naturally a Coutinho type number 10 but no where near as good as Coutinho.

Thanks! We lost Everton's loanee McAleny to a broken leg a few weeks ago, so we're in desperate need of someone who can sit behind the forward and either deliver goal scoring opportunities or whom can cut in an have a go himself. Should be interesting to see where he plays.
