I am about to buy and erect a Summerhouse at the top of my garden. It will be erected on a freshly laid area of a raised patio. The overall size of the Summerhouse will be up to 4m x 4m.

The current preference is for a 'corner' Summerhouse, this is based on it opening out on to the Patio whilst overlooking the garden. It does appear that a premium is paid for this style though.

I am interested in recommended suppliers, any experiences of roof construction and considerations before erection in terms of use, heating, security and style.

All comments welcome.

Did you lay any power to the location?

I'm not sure of the point of a Summerhouse (in the UK)
Nobody ever sits inside one (because they already have a house for that), and it seems odd to sit next to one.
That then leaves it to be a glorified shed for the lawnmower and spade collection.

How about one of those Turkish roofed areas you can chuck a few cushions on, it will look far more stylish, it will be more likely to get used and nobody else has one.
Otherwise build a rectangular shed.

I don't know what a summer house is for, but them log cabins you can buy can become another room, i'm guessing a summer house serves a similar purpose. Somewhere to escape the kids/wife etc. I'd love a bigger garden and a log cabin.

There should be a thread in this section where someone bought a log cabin. Might give you some ideas.

EDIT: It was in GD - http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18414305

I bought a metal shed from these but they also do summer houses and such.
