Sunburn!

We are learning to take it out and about with us after getting a bit fried just having a walk around Kings Park to take a few photos last week.

Not aimed at the OP but I've never understood why sunburn is assumed to be a funny thing by the masses, people seem to love showing it off.

So few summers ago went back home to Croatia for a few weeks in the summer..I was there for about 2 weeks, going to the beach EVERY day about 2pm, starting with high (15) suncream and working my way down to 4 after about 10 days, and for the last few didnt use any (I tan pretty easy after a while).

So been there for couple weeks, had a bit of a tan, thought my skin was used to the sun...big mistake. Next day went on a boat cruise to an island with a few of my dads friends...went in the evening, slept on the boat, and after woke up spent the whole day near an island in the sun....cue me thinking I didnt need any more suncream after being in the sun for 2 weeks already....being stupid and not realising 11pm sun /= 3pm sun. When the night came I was in so much pain lol :( red everywhere, pouring after-sun on. When I got home the next day I didnt leave the house for about 3 days straight!

edit/

also one time aaages ago when I was a kid, again went back home for summer, but on the FIRST day I was there (yes 1st) went beach and spent 6 hours (12-6) in the sun and put nothing on..why I dont know. WHen I got home, had to use grandma's old cure...put loooads of natural yoghurt all on my skin, seemed to help a bit if i remember correctly!

i know the term sun, but not aware of the term sunburn??:p

constant 40-45 degrees in shadow here, only put 15SPF sunscreen on my tattoo just in case. never got sunburned.

Putting cut up tomatoes on sunburn helps, particularly if they're from the fridge. Little tip I was given that really works. The vitamins and **** that are in the tomatoes seem to be soothing on the skin. (/scientist :p)

Also natural yoghurt is good.

Worst I ever got sunburnt was in Bridlington, I blistered on my shoulders and it wasn't even a sunny day, had spent the day playing volleyball on the beach and ended up really badly burnt :(

I figure that as long as I try my best to keep my skin burn-free then the odd few times I've got sunburnt shouldn't be too much of a disaster. If everyone who got sunburnt once or twice got skin cancer then pretty much everyone would get it. Having said that I do need to be careful as I'm very fair (have Irish grandparents and picked up their genes it seems) and my grandma has had skin cancer in the past, she lived in Australia for 9 years and used to get burnt all the time without thinking of the repercussions.

The worst burn i got was on my shoulders that blistered like a mofo, had heaps of them in all sizes.
I couldnt wear a shirt for a week :p

Then one night i was out on a play ground swing and jumped off and landed with a roll and tore every last blister and the skin around it off. The shirt i was wearing was soaked on the shoulder with blister juice.
Im sure i woke up quite a few people from the yelling and swearing that night. =/

When I was a child I once got sunburn on my shoulders, it was nasty, but pretty average.
Any who I was sitting next to a big pond with some of my friends when one of them kindly pushed me in. The pound was filthy and my sunburn got all infected and it turned yellow and bumpy, I actually looked like a lizard. I had to take a week off P.E. because of the pain.

True story.

Aftersun lotions really only cool and moisturise the skin. Sunburn is acute inflammation in the lower layers of the skin.

Taking some strong anti-inflammatories can help speed up sunburn recovery by reducing the inflammation.

Got sunburn on my shoulders when I was younger be spending hours in a little pool with no suncream. Still don't wear suncream that often (I hate the feeling of it sticking to me), I just limit my exposure to a couple hours.

Man that shoulder pain was so bad. All I could do a breaktimes was sit on a bench.

Cyprus rocks. My family lived there from when I was 2 until I was 5, I really want to go back there!

A week off PE?

Worth it.

A couple of years ago I went to Silverstone with my Dad and brother, and we didn't take any sun block, which was a grave error, as I returned with second degree burns all over my legs, they swelled up horrendously and I couldn't walk properly for about 2 weeks.

I went to the Renault World Series at Silverstone last Sunday. Had a face like a lobster for three days and bits of it have been flaking off for a good couple of days now.

Florida I can understand, but Northamptonshire on a cloudy day?

I went both days. As it was cloudy I left the suncream in my car and ended up with a rather red face with white rings from sunglasses. The sun was hardly even out on Sunday afternoon.
