I used to go here in my teens (over 20 years ago) and unless I was blind to it, it was nothing like that back then.
We used to stay in Sunny Beach and sometimes Nessebar(sp?).

Bulgaria has taken over from Turkey as the dirt-cheap destination of choice for a certain sub-set of the population. Used to be Dalaman and Bodrum, now it's Sunny Beach. Tho Turkey's starting to pick up again.
I'm speaking as someone who has worked in an airport for the past 6 years and can guess which flight they're on just by looking at them.
Because very often, they can.they must have thought they would all just waltz through and nobody would check
I went to Sofia on my stag do very recently, a lot less Brits there thankfully! It was a nice city for a 3 night stay.
I like to think we were a bit more respectful than the sorts that go to Sunny Beach.
Ive been to Bulgaria several time including Elenite, Nessebar (very nice stayed in a locals house) and Sunny beach. This was about 25 years ago when it was probably more soviet bloc stype than it is now.
Find somewhere with a nice large pool as the sea was crammed full with large jellyfish and I got several painfull stings!
