SupCom worth getting?

Worth it 105% tbh its an awsome game very addicting the only problem is the game can slow down big time even on a oc quad.It can be quite dishearting when youve spent 30 mins building a nice army+ base + eco only to find the game gradually slowing down even after +the sim speed is at max .

Just bought it (sup com only) off D2D for £15. Its 5GB though so I'll have to install and check it out tonight when I get home from work :/

As matt0r mentioned, it is rare that you will get past 500 unit cap. My comp does cope fairly well with the huge games, so long as I'm not viewing the battles on my screen. watching the units will kill your computer.

And SupCom does work with multicores, but if you have multicore, I would highly recommend getting the SupCom Core Maximiser. A quick google should find it, it is a small program that someone wrote that smooths out the use of multicores with SupCom. Works with up to 8 cores, and does a lot to keep the game smoother lategame.

Oh, and SP doesn't translate particularly well into MP Stelly ;-)

Brill Game

Dual Screeny Goodness..

And runs very well, screenies from my old 939 x2 and agp card. not a lot of slowdown in big games either.

Cons: Forged Alliance ruined the game! What happened to resource gathering and huge battles? ;_;

Erm Forged Alliance created huge battles. Before FA it was Sim City in your base. All you did was build up your mass fab economy whilst teching to T3.

There was a frantic T1 rush to test enemy defence and then T3 tech up.T2 wasnt used AT ALL.

Now SupCom is a brilliant game, but make sure you get Forged Alliance to.

Now Pros:
Strategic Zoom - There is no going back after you have used it.
Dual Monitor support - Map on one screen the other to keep your fingers on the action
Massive Armies and some extremely frantic battles
an intelligent resource system although could be better

Cons:
Machine grinding - Seriously dont bother playing it without high end dual core and dont bother 4x4 maps without quad
Lack of support - The game needs patching because when you actually get into the game you learn that a number of the units have bugs (for better and worse)
Air battles - Although the air units are WAY better than anything come before they are just to powerful and due to the fact that you can spam units it means air always becomes the be all and end all of all battles.

/me installs.... Lazerbeams!

Edit: Good old PC gaming. Server is too busy as I try and get updates via the installer.

This looks nice.

My question would be: how's the SP campaign? I don't like/have time for MP with RTS, but I do enjoy a good SP campaign. Some RTS, though, seem to neglect this aspect of their games or make them feel rushed in favour of getting into skirmishes vs AI or other human players.

Solid SP campaign is a must for me in RTS.

Can't even activate the pos because apparently my serial is wrong. Then I can't even patch the sod manually because every patch seems to return an error message, and the updating server is 'too busy'. Already wasted an hour

Pro's, as mostly above.

Cons:
No random maps.
No nice & easy to use map editor with scripts etc.
T4 way overpowered, and the differences between T1, T2 and T3 units is too big, T3 nearly renders T2 completely useless. In aoe2 you could send 50 men at arms vs 10champions and still do some damage or win ( or even skirmishers vs champions, they'd still finish em off if coming 1 by 1), in supcom it's impossible to do any noticeable damage even sending 500 t1 tanks vs1 T4 colossus assault bot :(.
Very heavy on system res, both the cpu and gpu have a hard time.
Some units overpowered, mainly the heavy t3 gunships ( there is no way 1 bloody fancy helicopter should be able to take sink 20 frigates), but most of these problems are again related due to way too big differences between tech levels.
Ai is a bit retarded, even the sorian ai unless set at cheating, simply sucks quite badly.
Tech rushers win.

Note: I love supcom before you say I'm an anti supcom hater, but imo it could be heavily improved. I usually play with T4 disabled as I reckon they're overpowered, numbers should win, I know there should be some deviation, but there's no way 1 big T4 unit should be able to beat 1 whole player with over 700 t1/t2 units.

Best parts of the game:

The monkeylord microwave laser, it is just brilliant.

The sound of a GC walking.

The panic that kicks in when T3 mobile art shells start hitting you.

Zerg rushing an enemy with mantis

Finally got the damn thing installed yesterday. Basically D2D 'forgot' to give me an activation code.

I played multi with me and a mate teaming up against 2 AI (Challenge/and Horde) at around 6pm. It ended at around 10pm with me being attacked by a continous stream of big UFO things, followed by a sodding Colossus and a Mobile war factory an hour later, which deciminated my base. I managed to stay alive with a sole T3 Engi cowering in fear in the corner of the map...

Then came a stream of nukes that hit my mates base. Then we had a resource crisis and the game was all but over - his 140 unit army with mokneybot spider things and artillery wasn't enough.

Can't wait to get home today so I can spend tonight and the weekend practising!

http://www.flickr.com/photos/kainz/3448627970/ - a screenshot of my mates army getting nuked along with my sole engi cowering at the rear doing repairs :o

Good to see you got the problems sorted mate. Sounds awsome the words "4 hour game" has got my hopes up a lot! My copy arrived yesterday but haven't had time to play it, gonna give it a go in half an hour. :)
