SuperBowl 50

I enjoyed the game, it was a defensive struggle and until the final 5 mins, was a one score game. That Denver D was unbelievable, the amount of times Cam was rushed and sacked was a pleasure to what.

So happy for Peyton Manning, the old guy should retire now, he's got his second SB ring. It was clearly evident that he's past it, he did nothing of note all game. Von Miller's SB MVP was well deserved.

Now to the off season...

:(

Carolina wee so slow all game, always flirting with the play clock and even failing to start once. They didn't help themselves all game, even when they were behind they kept it slow. They should have been pushing hard with fast plays to pressurise the Denver defence. Too slow and ponderous IMO

I was watching the BBC coverage and they were saying how Carolina should have ran some actual QB run plays rather than Cam escaping the blitz and rushing on an intended pass play.

It was very similar to the Seattle/Denver Super Bowl, Denver scoring for fun got smashed by the number 1 D of Seattle.

Enjoyed the game and fortunate enough I had nothing to get up for today. I admit I was wrong, in that I thought it would be a coronation for the Panthers. A few former Bears on the Panthers team although I wasn't cheering a particular team but I feel a little sorry for Rivera although he's done a great job this season.

I did think the BBC coverage had some issues this year although it may not have been all their own fault. Having the international commentary/feed (so no Nantz or Simms) was a real let down and weakened the experience. I've generally been very impressed with the freeview coverage of the big game over the last few years so not sure why they did this. Also audio was all over the place, along with some bad lip sync issues. Feels like the sound from the stadium was being muted and fluctuated at times giving the game an odd atmosphere. If you compare the footage from NFL.com at certain moments (Newton fumble 4th qtr) you can hear this. Not sure why this was or if it's a quality issue but I noticed it very quickly as I watch on NFL GamePass all year around.

Also the moment when the NFL Network commentators missed Rivera being told the challenge wasn't being overturned, or the BBC crew continued debating the slow mo footage of the first challenge yet we are looking at them in the studio?! Overall I think they do the coverage about as well as a UK broadcaster can with minimal investment and the analysis was well done, along with minimal guests and irrelevant conversations entering the fray (that Mike Carlson question to O'Neil was cringy).

As for the game, both Defenses were outstanding but credit to the Broncos for just being so good in all defensive positions. The way the front seven manhandled the O Line and Newton was outstanding. I did think Newton was far too self aware on the first drive, and never got going although the pressure and lack of any help from the WR's didn't help.

So now the annual withdrawal where you realise there's only the upcoming draft and mock-draft analysis to look forward to :(

I've been a Broncos fan since the Elway era when Channel 4 first pioneered showing the game weekly here. Good to see the Broncos actually get over the line in a Super Bowl again, it's been a while. Although during the 3rd I thought they might throw it all away in true Broncos style, with Manning throwing tame interceptions and getting sacked. Lucky they have such a hard hitting defense to save matches.

It's just as well they didn't let it slip or else white would be another colour added to their list of unlucky jersey colours :)

I was really surprised by how much Cam buckled under that pressure from the Denver D. I really thought they would mix things up in the second half as things were not working (like they did all reason), but they just couldnt respond with anything.

In the end it made for a fairly boring game, but it was great to see Miller win the MVP. Manning getting it would have left a bad taste in my mouth!

I thought the same on Sky. Usually I find the audio mix on the NFL is great (better than their football coverage), but it was oddly muted for the SB. The half time mix was particularly ropey but that wasn't a deal breaker.
