This saturday at Castle Combe is the annual Stroke Association charity day. The basic idea is that members of the public come along and buy passenger rides round the track in interesting cars (driven by trusted experienced drivers, by invitation only!) and all the proceeds of the rides go to the Stroke Association. Over the years this event has been running at Combe over £125,000 has been raised for the Stroke Association

Supercar Saturday is a unique event featuring Supercars, Classics and Racing Cars, where you can join in the action for a passenger ride around the high speed roller-coaster that is Castle Combe Circuit in Wiltshire. Combe has been called the ‘most action-packed’ circuit in the UK, and for good reason. It tests cars to the limit with its twists, bumps and high-speed corners and Saturday 23 October is your chance to find out what it feels like to be out there, inside one of these superb cars.

A fabulous collection of exciting cars and highly skilled drivers will be waiting for you and for a donation to The Stroke Association starting from just £20, the choice of cars is yours! Take a look at the list of cars we have this year; everything from a classic E-Type Jaguar, a 1964 Le Mans winning Spitfire through to a Ferrari 360 Fiorano to the mind-blowing Radical Sports racing car.

New for 2010, we also have the opportunity for you to become a motorsport competitor for the first time, with an AutoSolo organised on site by Bristol Motor Club. Can you navigate the testing course in the fastest time of the day? Only one way to find out – take the challenge!

I've seen the car list, think it's about 50 in total. Highlights for me are the race spec Radicals, Westfields, Caterhams, Dodge Viper competition coupe, various Porsches. As-well as those race-spec cars there's also lots of what I'd call 'fast-road' cars. Not an out and out race car, but still pretty damn quick and probably more comfortable (also still fun if it's raining!). Things like Nobles, Maseratis, Ferraris, Honda NSX, Saleen Mustang, Corvette, M3 etc. I think you get the idea

In addition to that there's Guest Drivers; Barrie 'Whizzo' Williams, Anthony Reid and Kyle Tilley who will appear in a variety of machinery during the day.

Also, if you want to get behind the wheel and show everyone your driving skills, there's the Bristol Motor Club Autosolo taking place at hourly intervals during the day in a section of the paddock. Just £20 for an hour of tense competition, with coaching from the acknowledged experts in Autosolo.

Car preparation experts Turner Racing Developments, Jigsaw Racing, Lunar Racing and Neil Garner Performance will be with us if you want to pick their brains on car setup and tuning.

That's one of the cars that'll be there for you to buy a ride in.

I daren't look at the weather forecast, but if it's wet the event is still going ahead (the charity have hired the track from Castle Combe, come rain or shine!) - but I imagine the tintops Maseratis/Porsches etc would be more popular than the Radicals!

For more information please see the Stroke Association website. Also on the Stroke Association website is the advertising poster for this event if you feel like plugging it elsewhere :).

Oooh, not sure if thats the same Viper she had a few years ago, was blue then. I was giving her some drift training at Silverstone. She had no problem getting it drifting, with 700bhp she just had to tickle the throttle pedals ... in ANY gear, problem was stopping it LOL. Awesome car and looks gorgeous now.

To give readers an idea of a full lap at Castle Combe which is one of my favorite circuits here is an onboard of me in an Elise Trophy Race Car earlier this year.

Not quite supercar day is it, mostly quite normal performance cars.
Love Coombe though :)

Avid ‘Top Gear’ fans must often wonder what it’s like to ride in some of the world’s fastest cars and at Castle Combe on Saturday October 23, they have a chance to find out.

The annual Stroke Association ‘Supercar Saturday’ allows anyone the opportunity to experience five scintillating passenger laps in everything from a Ferrari 360 Fiorano to Maseratis and Porsches, helping a good cause at the same time.
A number of the cars and drivers will already be known to regular race day spectators. The 2010 Castle Combe Pre ’90 Formula Ford champion, Kyle Tilley from Chippenham, is one of the event’s ‘Star Drivers’, on hand to drive people in their own cars to give them an insight into the high speed demands of one of the country’s fastest circuits.

One of the ‘hairiest’ cars will be the mighty 8.3 litre Dodge Viper GT3 of Bath’s Nadine Geary, which can lap the 1.85 mile track at an average speed of almost 90 mph in the circuit’s Sports and GT championship.

Even faster will be the Radical sports racing cars, such as the SR4 of Rachel Davies, the 2009 champion of that category. These cars are easily capable of lapping at an average speed of 100 mph, leaving even the most sophisticated road going ‘supercars’ trailing.

One of the world’s most accomplished historic race car drivers and a supporter of the event for many years is Barrie ‘Whizzo’ Williams. Having competed for over 50 years in more than 800 races, ‘Whizzo’ has driven almost every type of car and is a trusted pair of hands for owners of priceless classic racing cars who wish to deploy them at some of the top events worldwide.

Rides are available from £20, depending on the car/driver combination.

The day starts at 10-00 AM and carries on till dusk.

General admission is £5 for adults and free for children, with easy free parking on site. More information on http://www.stroke.org.uk/fundraising/fundraising_events/castle_combe/castle_combe_2010.html

I implore anyone who can get to the track who maybe hasn't been on circuit before to get down there tomorrow and buy a ride, in any of the cars. I've been lucky enough to have driven Combe in my own car and it's an epic circuit. That was just in a GT-Four so I can only begin to imagine what a passenger lap in a Viper would be like!

How was it?

Slippery to start with as the track was wet. Then skulking in the pits in the morning as it was raining. Beautifully sunny in the afternoon though . By 4pm the track was properly dry, and all the cars with cut slicks were able to give it 100% all afternoon :).

I know Dad had six fee-paying punters in his car, and there seemed to be a good amount around in the paddock :).

I went out in one of the Radicals, I'd forgotten how fast they are (and I'm used to Westfields/Caterhams/Ultimas!) And how much grip they've got :D even in the wet.

At about 3PM the count so far was £6K raised, and there was still moneys coming in and the Autosolo hadn't been counted yet.
