SuperChip problem

so you wont have ignition tuned to be continuously on the brink of det, boost wont be beyond the flow capacity of the turbo so wont be super heating everything. provided they have set the fuelling correct it would be a nice safe map

a bad map will ruin an engine

a generic map, if done properly will be absolutely fine

> i can't see how that can end well in the long run?

so what do you feel could go wrong with things being set conservatively?

there are loads of things that can be wrong with maps, but conservative isnt a bad thing imo

I admit i know sweet FA about diesel tuning, but with a petrol every engine is different so unless its done on a rolling road so you can monitor the A/F ratio, Det, boost etc i can't see it being a good thing?

but if its done "right" it is set conservatively to stay away from the bad thresholds. generic maps have been being applied to cars for years and years, provided you get something good yuoll be fine.

as for "customising" it, thats how company's stage 2 maps produce more power as they then tailor it more to the car, take it closer to the thresholds, which wouldnt be possible without testing (road or roller based)

in the case of the OP though, it sounds like hes been stitched up

It will be an 'off the shelf' map, rather than a custom programmed map for that particular model, assuming the car is mechanicaly sound its very safe.

It gets more tricky with modded cars as the map has to be customised on the rollers for that particular vehicle, but it doesnt sound like that scenario is applicable here.

You should notice a difference - it is possible they goosed the flash somehow and your still running a factory map, thats what my money would be on.
I would expect if they succesfully put an incorrect map on, you would have allsorts of obvious issues, bad running, bad fuel consumption, etc.

I would take it back to the garage for investigation, and talk to superchips directly if you stil have difficulty - I belive they offer a money back guarantee and will put your car back to standard if you are not happy.
