Superchips in administration

There does seem to be a heck of a lot of people who are happy to go this route.

If Superchips did an off the shelf product to make cars excessively pop and bang they'd be raking it in. It seems like that's all people are interested in now!
I must admit I like the odd burble but people go so crazy with it now

A lot of cars come with excessive, faked popping as standard now :/

An moron in a merc hatchback got pulled outside my house not long back. Crawling down the road and blipping throttle so his pillock map would pop/bang, just after 11 at night

I call him a moron because he did it with a marked X5 behind him & presumably at minimum no/invalid insurance as the car got towed :D

If I had to guess (and I'm guessing blindly as I don't know what products Superchips do), a lot of people have heard horror stories about the ECU having an extra bit/byte to let the dealer know how many writes the ECU has had, and would rather have a piggyback mod/tune that can be removed prior to going back to a dealer. I'm not sure if Superchips offer this, it wasnt that clear on their website.

Indeed, the rise of 'tuning boxes' will have played a part - if you're going to do it yourself on your driveway, just buy a box and plug it in, job done and 'warranty friendly'. (There's loads of these now - DTUK, TDI Tuning, JB4, Racechip, Bluespark, etc.)

If you want a remap, get it done properly on a rolling road. Or by diamond dave's popcornmegamaps on your driveway for cheap.

The 'plug in at home remap' has fallen into a bit of a no-mans land.

I wouldn't personally touch a tuning box with someone else's barge pole.

One of the companies you mention above put certain to that. I asked for some information, proof of claims and assurances via their social media since no-one was answering the phones. The company simply deleted my question and blocked me from their page. To me that spoke volume, gave me an impression that they weren't willing to back their product when questioned about it.

Nor would I but 5 minutes spent on any sort of owners group/forum would suggest plenty enough people are happy to slap one on, they've definitely taken a huge chunk of the market away from things like the Bluefin.

As well as the warranty thing, i've seen plenty of people talk them up on the basis you don't need to tell your insurance either, because you can just take it off if you need to

Wow! Very surprised initially to hear this, used them for a 172BHP remap on my old 1990 Escort RS Turbo although it ended up having a Turbosystems map eventually due to a fuelling problem with the Superchips map though...

On reflection, the rise of plug & play devices and Facebook/eBay tuners probably hit them hard over time, still a shame to see such a well known (to most) brand potentially disappearing.

Unfortunate, hope that maybe they are just protecting themselves by going into administration. Bluefin was a very good tool to hide a remap when the vehicle still had a warranty. As for tuning boxes, they're also fine and the better ones have improved from just throwing more fuel in.

Actually just updated myself from their website and the header in this thread is incorrect as they are in liquidation which is very different to being in administration. https://www.realbusinessrescue.co.u...ion-bankruptcy/liquidation-and-administration
