Ok I contacted a website, asking them what I should be taking if I don't plan on getting big, just keeping a goood diet, and this is his responce:

It sounds like you require more carbohydrates and maybe also l-glutamine and creatine.

I though creatine was solely used to increase the size of the musles? Anyway, should I follow his advice? Or get something else?

They are trying to sell you products mate. Ignore.

You're right about creatine. There's absolutely no use taking it if you don't want to put on muscle mass. Even then it's debatable whether it is worth it or not. The only supplement I would consider in your shoes is whey protein.

Yer, if you just want to keep a healthy diet and stay in reasonable shape then you might consider whey protein to assist you but l-glutamine and creatine are for people who want to put on muscle, they work for some, dont work for others, but they are not what you are looking for here.

I would have thought that a good diet, by definition, requires no supplements at all (unless you have a medical condition that requires them).

You can get all the protein you need from a balanced diet.

I use Dr Scholl odour eaters myself.

:/

Totally agree... Unfortunately Pyro seems to be having severe problems getting enough in. In fact he hasn't eaten any meat for the last few weeks full stop. See his thread here.

Lmao you know what I meant! :p

Fair enough - but I would still err on the side of real food - protein supplements might increase his calory intake, but at the cost of the other nutrients he would get from real food (vitamins and minerals, and all the nice things, like fats).

By an large, I would guess, supplements are useful for their ease of use. Personally, I just increase my real food intake if I'm excercising hard (nothing beats an half a pound of semi-raw tuna steak, or avocado and crayfish in a bucket), but I can see the attraction in necking a pint of protein in a bottle.

Knowing Pyro (inasmuch as you can infer things about a person from a forum, and I apologise unreservedly if this misrepresents him), the lack of food may be symptomatic of othe issues.

So rather than a quick fix, it might be wiser just to plan a balanced diet, and learn how to prepare and cook decent meals - you may even enjoy it.

If you're stuck for ideas, everyone on GD has a favourite recipe, be it for brekky, lunch or supper.

(With regards the feeling full on a big mac meal - that will be the flavor enhancers, sugars and saturated fats).

Borris I agree with you and I think most people would, but having read the other thread I do think that pyro should probably invest in some whey protein if his diet stays the way it is as he isnt getting enough protein from normal sources and if he wants to keep in reasonable shape then hes going to need it.

Well I'v been trying to get into a good balanced diet, I try to start my day with a good meal, two oatmeal buns with some mayo, three slices of ham each and an boiled egg in each one, couple of chocolate croissants (ok not the best thing but I need something sweet!) and apple and a pint of orange juice.

It's what I don't eat after that that gets me down, I just want something between breakfast and lunch, as my lunch is mostly just pasta...

Also I'm joining the basketball team and probablt water polo as well, so I guess I'll burning even more energy than usual, which is why I want some supplements.

But I agree that it's best to not take supplemenets, but right now that's not a choise for me, I don't want to live off supplements, I just want a bit of help with having a healthy (no fat/fried stuff) diet but getting enough energy from it.

What sort of whey should I get? There's so many differend things, I don't know what to chose!

Cheers guys :D

I just don't know what I should take, because I see a lot of these powders that have ephedrine as well...that can't be good for me!

I like my reflex instant whey, it tastes great and seems to do the trick, time will tell.
A good diet needs no protein, but I have to eat a lot and have been for a while, still not putting much muscle on, so now I eat a lot and have 2 25g shakes a day (well most days)

I can vouch for the reflex instant whey. I've tasted quite a few different protein shakes and the taste is second to none

Well I guess £30 isn't that bad for a whole month's worth, also, after basketball I feel dead tired, should I get the relfex pit-stop bars to eat right after practice?

Ephedrine in a whey protein supplement? I think you are getting confused mate.

Ephedrine is the isolated active substance in Ephedra and has been banned for a while now if I remember correctly. People used to use it a lot combined with caffeine and asprin (known as an ECA stack) for fat burning. There are other products about now which give us a sort of "herbal" form of it (Like Reflex's Sida Cordifolia) but I don't think I have ever seen them in a standard tub of whey! :)

Yer I beleive Ephedrine is found in the body as a result of fat loss medications, a mate of mine was recently suspended from a national rugby league as he tested positive for higher amounts of ephedrine than can occur naturally, he had been taking thermabol on the advice of his coach so as far as we know its down to that.

You wouldnt be getting any from whey.

Yeah Ephedrine is IOC banned, but not illegal, at least in this country. Supp makers in the States have stopped supplying it though, so getting hold of it is tricky.

And no, i've NEVER seen it in a whey supplement.

I think that would be it. I can't view the label because acrobat says it can't read the pdf file, but they don't sell any other stuff as far as I know.

On my tub it says 16.6g of protein per 22g serving, I'm assuming that doesn't include the extra protein from drinking it with milk.
