Hi all,

Am I allowed to post a link to a just giving page on here incase anyone fancies donating to Mencap? :)

Never done anything for charity before so it would be nice to get some sponsorship.

Admins - let me know if this is/isn't allowed and I will post edit in the link if it is.

Cheers,

Alex

Here is the link thanks so much in advance for anyone who feels like donating, no donation is too small! :)

Cheers for permission to post this JohnnyG, much appreciated.

(disclaimer: assuming that there is no minimum amount for a donation on just giving, I have no idea lol)

What are you exactly doing to raise money?

just putting up a link is lazy, run a marathon or something

Essentially, Mencap support people with learning disabilities and their families and carers.

We are doing a sponsored (hopefully!) 24hour gaming marathon at work. I'm not physically able to do things like climb mountains and run marathons but this I can do so I am :D

I'm looking to raise £75, but one of the other lads already raised £90 on his page so ideally I'd like to beat that too :P

I've only just made the page so haven't got any donations as yet, but if I am allowed by the mods to post the link here then I would like to. :)

Cheers,

G

But why do they deserve it over any other charity pal?

They don't necessarily :)

Charity is massively based on what you feel deserves it yourself.

If you don't think people with mental disabilities need additional support and would prefer to donate to a charity which you think deserves it more then that's perfectly fine too :) or if you think that charity starts at home and your money would be better spent looking after you and yours then that's fine too.

I work for an IT company and several of our clients specifically work in this field, care homes and charities who support people with mental illnesses.

I've been to clients of ours and seen the work these people do first hand and I think it's a much more difficult task than a lot of people give them credit for.

Caring for someone with a mental disability can be such a stressful, thank-less task and the people who do it deserve as much help as they can get. The people they look after deserve as much help as they can get and the families of the people who are being cared for need all the support they can get.

Nobody with mental disabilities or with family members who suffer from mental disabilities chose for their lives to turn out this way, and when my children were born it was one if my biggest fears. These people live those fears and they need our help.

That's why Mencap specifically this time.

Cheers,

G

Are you for real? This is the charity he supports, other people will do pages for other charities. Donate, or don't, it's not hard.

I understand this is the charity he supports but why should him supporting it make me give my money as below he has given a perfectly fine answer about why we should donate to them over another charity. When i don't know something about a charity im not just going to give them money that took me time to earn not knowing how the money would be spent.

Fair enough, I edited my post anyway as it was a bit harsh.

Still stuck at the same amount, thanks again for your generosity Uther, you're the only person that's not me or my mum that's donated so far lol :D Cheers mate
