My new rig is based on Q6600, 8800GTX, Abit P35pro mobo and 4 gig of Ram. Running Vista 64 home premium. No overclocking done on this rig!

The problem i have is this...

I can start run and play SCOM fine but once units start to increase the game crashes, i don't get any warning/stutters or anything like that and the temps aren't going particulaly high. If i'm on a small map with just a few A.I players then it's more stable. I can understand there is a lot going on and much for my pc to compute, but surly i shouldn't be crashing with my spec??

Anyone else have this problem or does anyone know of a fix?

Thanks

TT

Maybe your overclock is unstable if you are indeed clocking or it could simply be the drivers you are using and make sure its patched and up to date ?

I get this, but only after around 2 hours of playing.

Q6600 and 8800GT

It's nothing to do with the hardware though (I think), as it's only the game that crashes, not the pc.

I have never had the game crash on me.

Rather like you, I have a Q6600, IP35Pro, 4GB RAM and an 8800GT with Vista 64.

Try runing a MemChecker on your PC to check the RAM?

I've had this problem with 4gb and Vista x64 and it is/was quite widespread from what I researched at the time. The problem is basically the application running out of accessible memory (hence why it's not as bad on smaller maps with less AI).

Are you running all the Vista performance updates and fixes? I'm not sure if their all on Windows Update yet but I'm sure theres a thread in the Windows section which links to them (don't have a link sorry, use the search).

The fix for me was a combination of latest video drivers, all updates from Microsoft and the latest Sup Com patches which seems. You could also try turning off shadows ingame through the options. The last time I had a big game of Sup Com was when I was running Vista SP1 RC so maybe that helped.

Supcom often crashed for me in vista, in xp it's rock solid though and it's been a few months and hardware upgrades since I played it in vista, but I just game in xp....

i've got exactly the same setup as the op but i've had no crashing issues - but i only play supcom fa. i thought the running out of memory issue was only an issue on xp?

there is a core optimiser thing you can use (on the official forums) which is supposed to increase performance. the only time i get slowdown is when i select a large group of units and get them to move, however the ai can send hordes of units after me (3 ai against me) with no issues for a 2 or 3 hour game.

It's defo the memory issue.

I got rid of these crashes by adding the LARGEADRESSAWARE header thingy and ramping up the page file size. Hasn't crashed once since, even on 81km maps with 1000 unit caps and 4 or so AI.

I think FA has this already in the exe so I didn't need to do anything too that. Vista by the way.

Have you tried running Prime95 for a few hours (using all your cores) just to make sure you have no hardware issues?

I was trying to post the 3gb enabler last night, it solved all my problems when i first got 4gb ram. FA already has it, but for some reason they wont put it in a patch for Sup Com.

Have been getting this with supcom and FA as well. My system is rock solid under prime and memtest but supcom still doesnt like it :( Will try the patch for it though and see what happens. Cheers.

WOW thanks for all the advice, i'm not 100% confident how to apply that Ram fix tbh, but i'll try and understand it a bit better before i try, i'm rine with hardware but not too hot with software:(
Tbh i've not done any real testing since the build, i prolly should though hey :p What is Prime95? is that freeware?

Thanks
