Supreme Commander & Forged Alliance on Steam

Probably done to make it simpler for people rebuying it now it's on steam.
GPGNet could be a right faff to update properly if an update failed etc sometimes as well.

Why would they allow you to activate it on steam?

And whats so good about GPGnet?

What's so bad about GPGnet you mean. It's horrid, buggy, slow, barely ever works piece of rubbish you previously needed to use to connect to MP games on sup com

I was hoping that I could activate my retail keys :(

Wonder if they will add this in at some point.

Can't imagine thats going to happen.

£15 on steam, £5 anywhere else, think they are basically charging for the convenience of using steam. I still fancy it as a proper working sup com multiplayer is just awesome and I even own the hard copy of sup com....

The Steam version should auto update from the Steam servers as well, without having to go through GPGnet.

You can't go through GPGnet with the steam version as there is no GPGnet at all with it. All multiplayer for it is done in-game with a seperate matchmaking system, and it runs a different game version, so you can't play against people on GPGnet with the steam version and vice versa.

That is silly as I fail to see how this is going to build a decent community as surely by this point anyone who wants to play this game already owns it and is on GPGnet and if they persuade a mate to buy it why would said friend buy it on Steam where they cannot play with the friends that aready bought it?

If you were going to persuade any one to buy SupCom as you were still playing it online that would've happened long ago. I think by this point they are well aware of the fact people buying it on steam probably want to play the singleplayer or skirmish, at the most they might join other people who bought it on steam for some friendlies.

Not necessarily. I just persuaded my mate to get a PC for BF3 and found out he was a big TA fan when he was younger so told him to check out SupCom. If he went and bought the Steam version then we would have been screwed. Luckly I was able to intervene and show him to a much better deal that would allow us to play together.

What is the official reason for this?

I don't believe anyone has spoken out on the subject. But I can only assume its due to running the game through a client. They didn't want the client, so bodged in some kind of multiplayer system into the game itself.

Tempting! But I paid full whack for both these games on their respective release dates ... how long is it on offer for?

Its a THQ game, so until Sunday I would assume. Though it could also go on a higher offer over that time. I won't consider it until its 75% off, but even then since its running a different version I probably won't buy it, unless I can also convince all my friends to rebuy it too.
