Very nice. Would love to get one of these for work, but I think we'll be stuck with Macbook Airs for a while.

They have also announced the Surface Book....

"This is the fastest 13-inch laptop ever made, anywhere, on any planet"

The Surface Book has a NVIDIA GeForce GPU, GDDR5 memory and 12-hour battery life.

Pre-orders on both are available from tomorrow, and shipping on the 26th of October.

On US store it says new pen works on older surface models.

Does the Surface Pen that works with Surface Pro 4 work with other Surface devices?

A: Yes. With Palm Block technology and 1024 levels of pressure sensitivity, Surface Pen gives you a surprisingly natural way to mark-up documents and take notes in your own handwriting.

It will be interesting to see how Microsoft do the trackpad on this - which is my single biggest complaint about non-Mac laptops. Dell got really close with the new XPS 13 but it's still not quite there. OEMs relying on Alps or Synaptics pads are pretty much a guarantee of an awful experience.

Amongst power and storage upgrades the surface book has an nvidia gpu sited within the keyboard dock!!
battery is also split between the dock and the screen (sure I read it was 1/3 or 1/4 in screen) meaning in tablet mode the surface book would have less life than the sp4, about 3-4 hours versus 9.

if the surface book includes options for higher-end nvidia gpus (980M?) it's got the potential to be massive.

I'd sell my recent macbook pro retina for it

I doubt it will even be a mid ranged level gpu and it's only packing 1GB GDDR5 :(

Maybe 940m/950m level?

They seem to be a bit cagey on the specs of the GPU for sure at the moment. It can't be too bad ass, how would they get the cooling? Also no confirmed release date in the UK yet for the Surfacebook.

Anyway its better than none, but if the battery life is compromised then - at least for me - its a Surface Pro 4 that'll be coming my way. The i5's are available early November, the i7's not until December. Personally I will wait till new year, get Xmas and tax payments out of the way and check out its performance before splashing the best part of a grand and a half...

the keyboard section has a nearly full width 'vent' just in front of the hinge, the gap from the hinge is there to allow the vents to work while in 'drawing' mode :)

I think if the GPU was going to be anything more than say equivalent to the one in the 15" Macbook they'd be shouting about it and in a 13" even that would be an achievement compared to the competition so I don't hold out much hope!

Does anyone know where these will be widely available online in Europe, and what is the earliest shipping date?
Cheers

SP4 can be preordered from the Microsoft store now, Core M and i5 due on the 12th Nov, with the i7 version due on the 10th Dec. SB is rumoured to be released in the UK early 2016.
