Surface (TV Series)

I remember when it was airing it was 50/50 if it would be picked up and I thought it would be but just checked and it is definately cancelled. So that's Surface, Invasion and Threshold all cancelled after one season. How do they expect to get good viewing figures when they cancel shows like this with no closure for the viewers?
I think that's the biggest difference between US and Europe, no matter how many borderline sci-fi series they start US viewers just don't get it. Another problem is with viewer's focus - it's what sunk many suspense/glued to sofa series. US public lately don't like series where action moves from episode to episode or is told long range, rather than being A->Z story per episode, something that won't confuse anyone if you skip 10 minutes of it - Law & Order kind of thing. To keep US viewers focused it has to be of Lost magnitude or they will walk away right after first commercial break. Sad. Really sad. Just look at the bodycount: http://epguides.com/grid/ , many of these series could easily run for years, instead - multiple clones of Law&Order remain, and good shows get cancelled.

Looks like they are still walking around with everything crossed that good DVD sales on the "Complete Series One" boxed set may mean a recall and the go ahead for a second season.
I was obviously mistaken with regards the network posters I thought I'd seen.
So as of right now the status for Surface is indeed "cancelled" although it isn't yet at the status "Dead and burried" - fingers crossed and all that.
Once again it would appear to be a case of networks messing around with programs, putting them on at silly times, wondering why the viewing figures have dropped and then cancelling.
Apparently Surface was doing absolutely fine at the 8:00pm slot, they moved it to a 10:00pm slot and viewing figures fell.
However they got around 9 million for the final two episodes yet still decided to cancel - you wonder what a show has to do don't you
It all makes me very scared to watch anything from the US to be honest because it can so easily get cancelled and to say thats annoying is an understatement.
I wouldn't mind if some of the crap they send over gets cancelled but a lot of it is anything but.
Right now I'm enjoying season 3 of The 4400 - that came as a bolt out of the blue as I was expecting that to be cancelled as I felt season 2 of that wasn't quite as exciting as season 1.
Season 3 on the other hand so far has been excellent - so I expect that to be cancelled soon

Good shows get cancelled all the time, just look at Carnivale.
Invasion deserved to get cancelled, it was so slow got halfway through the series and there was no progression in the story at all.

Agreed. I saw the first 10 odd eps of Invasion and at that point it had got no where, so I gave up out of boredom.Goatboy said:
Surface however totally rocks! Sadly the way the season 1 ended meant that a second season would be very hard to come up with. I loved Surface and went as far as signing a petition (useless I know) for it

As for Invasion it was pretty slow mid season but IMO it picked up again towards the end & that cliffhanger
I really need a second season of that...would love to find out what happened Neil
