Might be a long shot, but does anyone on here use it? Having major issues with rules now not having any affect on internet traffic.

The MD is yelling at me for allowing the employees on Facebook but I really have no idea what's gone wrong..

Websense aren't being helpful at all :(

I use it mate, but only for emails...

Are you running the latest version?

Do you block any other sites... if so are they working? Also have you tried restarting the surfcontrol services?

:)

We use it at work although I don't really work with it but it is pretty effective. The thing is it blocks youtube.com for example, but it wont block ie.youtube.com, so check things like that.

I work for an IT reseller and you'd get that behaviour if you'd forgotten to renew the license so if you haven't changed anything then it might be worth checking that.

On a side note, it'd be worth upgrading to Websense since you'll be forced to do so at some stage anyway.

Ive admin'd and commisioned several SC and SCMF filters over the past 4 years..

What version level are you on.?
Have you ran the Rulescheck tool.?
Have you tried creating a new DB.?
Are you running in passthrough mode or with an isa box.?

Get someone to go to facebook and repeatadly hit CTRL+F5, does the RTM show the activivty and is it being categorised correclty with the correct username by the entries.??

I really should have come back and checked this :p

It was finally resolved after 3 days of troubleshooting by Websense.

The issue was it was missing critical files relating to the filtering when it was updated/reinstalled using an RDP connection. The files ended up under Users & Docs on the Admin user, rather than in the Windows directory. Once the files were moved across, all was well.

IIRC, Surf Control processes things top to bottom.
So the ideal, basic, situation would be:
1 - Allow Access All
2 - Block specific sites
3 - Block all

Based on that, if you put a rule at the top that applys to everyone, then set that to block only facebook, it should then block facebook.

:).

Im just in the process of moving over to Smoothwall Guardian, good product.
But i honestly prefer the filtering mechanisms in Surf Control. :o
Its just easyier to add sites to a blocked and allowed list. :p.
