My flat suffers from quite a few power surges. The electric is also always cut of at least once a year for about 10 mins before coming back on again.

I understand a surge protector will not stop my computer and equipment from switching of when there is a power cut, but will it protect it from exploding when there is a power cut?

Reason I ask last time I had a power cut my PSU fried up!

Also, would a surge protector with a telephone socket protect my router that is connected to a telephone line.

Do you rate any surge protectors highely?

Thanks!

its always worth getting a surge protector

my flat suffers from noisy mains (spikes) (when i used to leave my speakers on they would pop/bang when my neighbour switched the kettle on or turned the lights off)

so a surge protector is a must as over time these spikes can damage sensitive electrical equipment

i got one that you can plug the phone line into as well ,well worth the 20 odd pound

Def. get one and plug in.

it's a few £ but worth it for piece of mind.

Belkin are the make that most , including me , use - they usually provide (or used to)an insurance element as well.

It should protect your router or modem if you get one with a telephone line input/output. As said above, well worth the money! They aren't very expensive and if you suffer from this problem reasonably regularly then it might be worth having one as a spare. They act as big fuses and effectively 'blow' when subjected to a surge - therefore they are sacrificial devices. Having a spare means that you can be back in business as soon as the 'leccy comes back on! :D

Get both,, then your double protected:D
I have my ups pluged in to a surge protector, so If the surge protector dosent manage to completely kill the surge, the ups should finsh the job, and it puts my mind more at ease in a thunderstorm too
