Took the Z for its first decent-ish run over the weekend, Hinckley to Luton. 20 odd miles of A roads/abit of town driving and 50 miles up the M1. Not being really careful, 70-80 ish

On the way the OBC was reading over 40Mpg! Not bad for a car which has 306bhp and 400NM

I had to get back for its first MOT sat morning so abit more heavy footed on the return but the above is taken a couple mins before i got home

Never seen more than 30mpg from my 328, even on a pure motorway drive. If I could be getting better than what is broken?

How do you drive? Are you one of those who 'keeps up with traffic' by doing 80+ in the outside lane, coming up behind somebody and then booting it back up to 80+ once they move out of the way over and over again?

You do have an M52 though whereas I mentioned the X54 engines.

I could get nearly 40 quite easily in the 335i, it was one of the surprising parts of the package i wasnt expecting, more so when 37 was my norm in the 530d i had a few cars before it

Your 328 is an older engine, it's the new ones that are good on the mpgzzz

I get that, and there is no official mpg in the manual I have. 320i and 323i are identical though at 42.2mpg 'out-of-town'. I never get close to that, all of my driving is 'out-of-town' and I drive it pretty gently.
Ironically, the best mpg I've achieved so far in this car was 29.1 and that was giving it hell round the welsh mountain roads.

Early days for my Z4 but i don't think i can get anywhere near that.

Mine is supposed to return the same mpg, but so far, on a sensible drives the best i have seen is about 31mpg

Which Z4 is it? If it's an E85 3.0i you should easily manage that on a Motorway trip with the cruise at 70. I've topped 40 (Just!) in a Z4 3.0i doing that. They are quite light.

Mine is the 35is i posted recently (Recent name change) 31 is about the reported combined, but i did a run today driving as efficiently as possibly on mainly motorway and dual carriageway and even then when i pulled up it was 30.9 i think.

Not that im complaining, i didnt expect to buy a car like mine and get good mpg, but i read the numbers and expected it to be better
