Surprising use for Dash Cams.

Hello All,
I recently fitted a dash cam to my car, mainly because I love a bit of tech, but also just in case of some unforeseen and unlikely event that may need proof.
Just three days later I am on my twice weekly 105 mile commute, it was almost midnight, and I was almost home. I was stopped by the police, (the first time in 36 years) apparently I was doing 75mph down a country road. I pointed to my new dash cam and gps logger and said I could prove that I had done no more than 60mph, and indeed that I had done 30mph through the last village.
I was sent on my way.
Lucky lucky lucky.
Thank you modern technology.
Oh, and yes I live here in the UK, not in some dodgy republic you've never heard of.
Lucky lucky lucky.

Very lucky lucky lucky (Kylie, is that you?)

Or you could have just told them that you weren't and if they had any evidence to prove that you had been speeding you would be happy to see it.

Must have been soft coppers as the police I've interacted with to date have always talked down, that their mind has been made up and that they are right.

Might now have to get a dashcam if this is the effect of one.

I doubt that a traffic officer would believe dash cam footage over their own calibrated equipment.

Your very lucky you had a dashcam, because not everyone is lucky enough to have one, sometimes they don't work either like they break, but luckily for you it was working innit. I mean on the bright side if you didnt have the dashcam you might have been quite unlucky to have been stopped by the rozzers for that, it would have been most unfortunate indeed. Luckily everything worked out in the end.

Innit?

Come in useful for alsorts of things not just their intended purpose :)

Had to use the footage from mine for a road rage incident infront of me to prove the person the police were trying to charge was actually the innocent party.

Is there any documented case where a GPS logged speed was wrong? GPS uses multiple satellites to get an accurate speed, doesn't matter if it's on a cheap as chips device or a top of the range one, GPS is GPS!

GPS is accurate with a good lock from lots of satellites and travelling in straight lines. The accuracy isn't as good outside of these conditions.

That doesn't really answer the question though. If op's account is true then the traffic cop was trying a fast (heh) one and backed away the moment he realised there's no win.

To be fair, I drive a lot in the middle of nowhere, aka no phone signal areas etc, and I rarely get less than 7-9 satellites at a time on my sat nav. Always use it to check my speedo in the car after I change wheel sizes etc. Pretty much use it as the speedo.
