What is actually happening at that junction? I've just seen where they've felled all the trees
It is the busiest M25 junction (I didn't know that until recently). It got a little busy occasionally. So they decided to make the junction a tiny bit larger to make it faster flowing (it won't help). I had heard that an old disused aerodrome nearby had been sold off for some more housing and this was required to accommodate additional traffic, although I've not seen that in writing. The disruption to people's lives and, more importantly, the ecological impact is ridiculous. But I guess it makes a few development companies a little richer so it's all good in the end (sarcasm).

Genuinely shocked that's true, I always though the Heathrow junction was busiest. I never found it that bad, I used to find junction 11 & 12 worse personally.
I genuinely cannot comprehend cutting all those beautiful trees down to make this junction wider, as you said it'll have no impact.

Surrey County Council claiming it is the busiest junction:

The airfield and then the junction "upgrade" is covered here starting at 6:48 to 8:00. This channel is fantastic and worth watching. he's very funny.

I'm in west byfleet and that M25/A3 work are very annoying! Even worse actually is the last few days where they've been doing works in cobham which is clogging up the A3 junction roundabout and so all the way down to byfleet too.. nightmare!

Not that it's important but I've always found this interesting. My postcode is CR8 (Croydon) but address is Purley, Surrey. Do I count or not?

Edit: They had to do something about that Wisley junction - the queues northbound on the A3 for the M25 were dangerous.

Well that's not true. The problem with that junction is that there's a junction there and three lines of traffic get crunched into one for the M25. That backs up and is really slow, and then the second line is full of people going onwards at the A3 into London but also people who know that you can get onto the junction from the middle lane. So that line backs up too and then the only good lane is the 3rd (fast) lane. The widening of the junction should hopefully alleviate the M25 junction queuing traffic.

Whether that justifies cutting down loads of trees or not, I don't know, but if that had been wasteland there would absolutely be a benefit to it.

For those who come on at the A3 junction at Ripley, if you just stay in the left hand land and continue past the left hand turn to Wisley, you can join the M25 queue much further up. You can then also move into the two further lanes to continue onto the A3, basically bypassing all the chaos.
