Well I contacted the dealer and Denon............but I am still no wiser to the hiss

Dealer says this is usual, Denon say it could be.

Searching around on the net and it does seem as though there is background hiss on some amps and seen as acceptable.

Be interested to know what others find with their amps.

Is this when it is in use?

Mine is a Denon 2805 and doesn't hiss with my speakers which are easy to drive, however I have seen this in the past with my Marantz on certain settings, the speakers would give a watery noise when the amp was playing and set to Dolby prologic II, it seemed to be an issue with the decodeing, but a constant hiss from which can be noticed from the seated position is not acceptable.

This with no source and as soon as you turn the volume up.....does not increase no matter what the volume is set to.

When listening to TV in can not be heard unless there is a quite scene and then it is just noticeable.

I have heard the same noise through HiFi speakers etc..........maybe I am expecting too much :)

Denon did suggest I could return it to the dealer and they would arrange to have it picked up to test.

Mattblack prob described the hiss better than me when he said 'watery sound'.

no, dont put up with it. my yamaha doesn't do it. It doesnt show hiss when you turn it up to the point that playing any sound would either destroy the speakers or send the amp straight into protection. Mine doesnt do it, your denon shouldnt either.

Will give it some serious thought.........maybe I will have a look at the wiring again.

Just checking the wiring;

Quick question......the Amp has the input for the Sub and I have been supplied the cable (single plug both ends) but on the back of the Sub it has a split input L R (mono).

So I need another suitable cable.....what? :o

I used a splitter for mine mate!

Has a single socket into 2 plugs

Andy

Is that one wire splitting into two?..........I have managed to do that with spare leads I found kicking around.

Just wondered if there was one all in one cable instead of me joining cables together.

Hi Andy..........good to hear you up and sorted mate

I am almost there myself.

Just had a week off work cutting holes in walls etc.

As for update on the background hiss I spoke both to Denon & the Retailer who were both helpful but said in is not unusual to have the slight hiss (watery sound).

Cheers for the help and encouragement Andy ;) and everyone else that got involved along the way.
