my parents are giving me 600 - 700 quid for my 21st this july.

so far i have

22" LG lcd (at HD resolution) on order
my pc
5.1 soundcard

therefore all im lacking is a proper surround setup.

i could get a klipsch promeda setup, however id prefer a hifi seperates setup tbh.

all i need is 5 speakers, and an amp with a sub - out (im using a 12" car sub)

what to get ?

are bose any good ?

This receiver/amplifier is £139.

add speakers

combine it with these for £69

or even these floor standers @ £59 a pair

depends what you want, but that amplifier is a good purchase. it has a remote control and a lot of input choices

Yesterday after scouring boards and comparing features I bought a Yamaha RXV356

and some Tannoy EFX 5.1 (can get them for £199)

And I'm completely blown away. I've owned 2 (all in one) 5.1 set ups before but nothing compares to this seperates package. Even my wife who was a bit non-caring about my new mid life crisis purchase piped up with wow, that does sound good (and she's a musician as well).

You could also try the Denon 1507 amp.

Thought I'd pass on my findings.

All I can say is no, a car sub which is designed to rattle the windows of your car while pumping out the massive bass of the latest dance anthem will sound truly horrble when playing movies. To be honest you would be better off with a pair of floor stnading fronts and no sub. The difference bettween a decnt movie sub and a decent music sub are massive.
