Sushi isnt bad, dont mind it but i dont like too much of it. Usually will end up going about once a week with my boss and the guys at work to Nobu in Berkeley square in London...they do really nice sushi there and other fish based dishes...their black cod is very nice but tbh its a bit over-priced but nice place if you want to see some celebs around:p.

As for Pret??, yeh they do some nice sushi as well. The guy who originally started off Pret has now opened a cahin of sushi places called ITSU...got a couple of them around Canary Wharf where i work...their miso soup is quite nice along with their sushi dishes. How do i know this info??, my bro used to manage one of their shops in the city a while back and is still in touch with quite a few of the Pret guys at their head office.

Ive only had Sushi at Yo Sushi once, but I really enjoyed it. I only had a few fish dishes (mainly salmon) which were nice, but the one that I really enjoyed was (Can't remember the name of it) but it was like thing strips of cripsy chicken. Will have to go again sometime.

Tempura sounds like what your describing but then i dont know half the sushi dishes:p...i just usually order what i like the look of:p.

I'm addicted too, but luckily live in Japan where it is cheap and 100x tastier than the Britih supermarket stuff.

Between three of us we had about 20 plates of sushi at lunch on Saturday and it set us back the equivilent of about £8. Some of the best I've tasted too! If you haven't already, I suggest tasting some of the more "exotic" stuff that sounds and sometimes looks disgusting but is usually very tasty! (Fish roe being one of them)

I hear there are some pretty nice Japanese restaurants in London. Maybe worth checking them out to fullfill your addiction, but I guess they won't be cheap? Have fun making your own, I haven't tried it myself but it could be fun !

This thread made me go buy sushi from asda. It was delightful :D
I got a salmon nigiri, 4x pepper hosomaki, a prawn california style maki and a tuna california style maki, it came with ginger, soy sauce and wasabi (which i managed to overdo on my first piece and smoke practically came out of my nose :p)

It was only 1.98 :) I'll definately be getting more.

Sorry to drag this up, but thought it was better than starting a new thread :)

I have a sushi addiction and would really like to try making some. I have a few fish recipe books with bits and bobs in but was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for some good sushi recipe books? I'm just after simple, tasty recipes at the moment.

I've also read that you should only buy fish from a fishmonger who does really fresh "sushi grade" fish. Has anyone who makes their own had any problems with fresh fish bought from supermarkets? I'm only really planning on tuna/salmon initially. Nothing fancy.

Thanks in advance.

P.S. Had some M&S sushi today as I was out and about on business, and it was thoroughly disappointing. Try and lacking in taste. The wasabi was rubbish! I used to love M&S sushi, but think I prefer Sainsburys now... or maybe it was just a bad one.

i live in London. a short 20 minute jaunt towards Camden will reveal more sushi-bars than i can count on one hand :D.

its a shame i don't have any cash!

I find it really hard to get a Wasabi "hit" now, i put a whole thing of wasabi and smother it with soy sauce and then douse the piece of sushi with it, still can't get a proper "blow your face off" moment anymore. Grrr!

EDIT- Woooo! Classic Penski sig!
