So yeah I got suspended from work today. Not going to go into specifics as I am due to attend a disciplinary on Monday but I would like some advice.

What can I expect? The letter I was given stating I was suspended tells me to refer to the company handbook regarding this. Guess what! Never got a staff handbook when the store converted from Safeway to Morrisons :/

The whole dispute is petty but at the highest level so I guess things could turn ugly with a wrong word or two.

What can I do to prepare? Any advice is appreciated.

I have made a note of the events that led to this and can produce evidence to prove my point. What else can I do?

Ta :)

Very basically the dispute is over car parking at work. Been going on for a few months now and had problems with the guy before that. Today I finally snapped at the guy and told him to explain why he kept picking on me.

No suitable answers were forthcoming so I gave him my name badge/tie/apron (yes till staff wear aprons  ) and tell him I'll be back to deal with this.

Go into Personnel (yes Morrisons are archaic) to attempt to file a greivance with him but he butts in and has me suspended at full pay :(

Yeah I've done wrong but the reaction has been totally over the top and I intend to fight it all the way where possible :)

I will have my Line Manager sitting in on the meeting with me on Monday but I don't know who will be running the show yet. I plan to take a dictaphone with me as well so that I can record everything that is said.

I haven't joined the union and kinda wishing I had now but not sure exactly what to do in this case.

//edit:

In my eyes this is petty btw as I (a cashier) have been picked on (imo) by the manager since he arrived 6 months ago. I have not physically assualted him or verbally abused him to my knowledge so I doubt it will go that far.

Yeah - when I arrived at lunchtime and the intended staff spaces (not marked in anyway) are full.

I put the car elsewhere intending to move it at my break. Before I could even settle down in the car he's shouting and waving that I'm in the wrong place, the world is going to end and no more customers will ever come to the store

Shouldn't be a problem but I do have some killer evidence that should shut they guy up. However he has made allegations that I threw my uniform at him - I'll have a hard time disproving that but I'm not sure how he can prove it either?

I have been reading the DTI website and by the looks of it I am allowed to enter my own greivance against him and fully intend to do so - hopefully it will make him think twice as well....

The Manager had a letter drawn up in Personnel accusing me of repeatedly ignoring management instructions and throwing items of my uniform at him

The ignoring instruction is partially true. The throwing uniform is a whole load of crap :)

All done and dusted now.

Result: Final Written Warning.

I'm a little suprised at this due to the fact I have had no previous warings or anything on file.

However they failed to follow certain parts of the basic rules set out by the DTi and I intend to appeal based on this :)

SHould be an interesting few weeks at work now :)

They are claiming that the repeated instruction to move the car was considered the verbal warning.

Also going from the statements that were read out today the Manager did indeed make up a pack of lies. I'll get the exact details from the letter however.

Basically they pulled me up on Gross Misconduct and barely gave me a chance to defend myself. I was not given any notes as to their investigation prior to the meeting and....

The Manager whom I had taken issue with was not present at this hearing!!

Right OK - got the paperwork infront of me just now. the reason for the warning is:

Failure to carry out reasonable instructions from a manager and using violent and threatening behaviour

I need to go over the statements provided by the manager (of which I was not given a copy) but afaik his words were pretty much copied from the staff handbook word for word! Also guess who didn't have a staff handbook?

The other thing that really seems obvious is in the letter of suspension:

'Any relevant documents arising from out investigation will be provided to you in advance of this hearing'

I'll give you one guess as to what they didn't do....

:/

I honsetly don't know what to do - as someone said last page HR are being all sweet and nice right now saying they'll support me all the way and grinning like idiots. Not falling for that tbh

Now of course at work I am extremely paranoid and nervous and I feel as though they are watching my every move looking for an excuse to fire me. As you might expect my mood is highly variable and I feel like I'm under a lot of stress - I seriously can't take it anymore :/

Holy 3 month and 14 day bump :o

FINALLY got the appeal hearing for this tomorrow - been long enough coming.

I'll let you know what happens.

Oh yeah - I have an USDAW rep this time.

I also spent a fair bit of time preparing for it/writing down questions for the rep. Must go to bed now though or I'll be yawning all day tomorrow at the appeal :D

Yeah but 3 months already served.

I also lodged a grievance at the same time and that was dealt with today. The Store Manager (my accuser) essentially went about making the most long winded apology without actually saying sorry. Was quite amusing tbh :>
