Suspicious browser redirects

There is a note on the newsnow website that says:

We're looking into reports that the 'Java update' malware ad is back. N.B. NewsNow does not issue Java updates so please avoid opening any downloaded .exe file.

A lot of sites over the last few days have been showing adverts which trigger this, as long as you don't download and run the .exe you should be okay at your end.

Hmm...

The people saying that it isn't happening to you - were you using an ad-blocker?

Keep these up to date..

Windows
Web browser (add Adblock Plus to Chrome/Firefox)
Flash
Java

When I read the website you're visiting, I was thinking to myself, why what kind of website is 'new snow'? :p

Ah yes, I had one of these too the other day (saturday). I was using IE which doesn't have AdBlock at the time. Apparently the ad is popping up all over the place. Compromised ad network apparently

I had a very annoying search engine redirect the other week.

I used all sorts of malware/spyware removal tools, which removed it but the problem was still there.

Turned out it had added a load of crap onto my desktop internet shortcut. Definitely right click on it and go properties.
