Suzuki Jimny

A serious off-roader sure but any of the lifestyle spec pickups like the Amarok are reasonably civilised relative to a regular car - a little less practical but not hideously so - while not my main car I daily drove my D40 Navara Outlaw for around 6 years and even with the rear leaf springs and on Falken Wildpeak all-terrain tyres it was mild mannered on the road, sat planted and comfortable on any decent road. Combined with a torquey and relatively refined V6, a decent auto transmission, great seats and an upgraded sound system it was a nice place to be while never outclassed off-road either (unless it came to doing some serious wading - but that is another story).

I wouldn't want to drive one without the parking cameras and with manual transmission though as otherwise they can be a bit of effort.

Non of this makes sense. I wouldn’t like to know what your main car was if you choose to daily drive a Nissan Navara and felt it was a refined nice place to be. I’m envisioning your “main car” was either imaginary or a Trabant.

It's kinda what the new Defender should have been. Instead of an expensive discovery based chelsea tractor.

So quite basic and loud at speed. But it's unlikely to go wrong.
Non EU6d compliant which is why they stop selling it?

Give over, the Defender is a run away success. Utterly clueless grumpy man you are.

Where did I say it was a refined place to be?

You've clearly not spent any time around a "lifestyle" grade pickup though.

EDIT: This is the interior on my Navara:

The seats are way better than the average for a car and make up a lot for the less refined ride due to only having leaf springs on the rear. If you are cruising on the motorway, etc. it is comfortable especially with the leg room.

Also sits pretty smoothly on country roads and a decently refined engine (unfortunately don't have any good videos to hand):

As for the silly imaginary comment I've posted pictures of 2 of my other vehicles several times on these forums and talked about some of the others over the years.

Erm, the post I quoted? The one you where for some unknown reason you felt the need to tell me about your car. The car that you drove daily, but wasn’t your main car… Maybe you drive your other car twice daily

I said it was relatively comfortable with a refined engine - I did not call it refined (I'm not calling the whole package refined - but the engine is one from the Renault/Nissan alliance designed for the "luxury" segment https://www.press.renault.co.uk/releases/572 so is nice and a far cry from the clattery tractor like 4 pots in some workhorse pickups).

I mentioned that I have a main car in context of:

I really don’t understand why people buy them as a main car.

But for different purposes I also drove the pickup daily so have experience of it as a daily driver as well as a car to compare.

You may have missed the point of motoring forum.

I for one like reading other people opinions of their cars how they use then and the pros and cons.

Every other review comments on the poor ride quality of the Jimmy. Look cool though. For me it's a little too small and the interior does nothing for me. That's said if you need some off road utility it has some ability.

Yeah and when they say a hill billy truck rides well you have authority to question their credibility.

The other side of motoring forum engagament. Its like the great awakening this year. first jpaul now Rroff people seem to be finally calling them out on stuff that ive seen for years.

PS i hd to show the ignored content to see the fun here :D

Most modern pickups are a long way from a hill billy truck - so you aren't off to a good start for an informed post. You can also see I've added caveats in there as to the ride quality due to the leaf springs on the back, so again not a very accurate representation of what I've actually said vs what you've imagined I've said - I've literally said "and make up a lot for the less refined ride"...

Then context matters - jigger's claim was "absolutely terrible" - I'm not claiming pickups are some pinnacle of refinement and are easily outclassed by any decent car but relative to jigger's absolutely terrible the modern lifestyle grade ones are quite acceptable and in reality comfortable enough, and specced well enough - some are very well specced, they aren't hideously outclassed by an average car like a Mondeo as jigger was claiming. Practicality as a car isn't quite there but it is a long way from absolutely terrible.

On the flip side there are pickups, intended more as workhorses, which are not great places to be generally and I wouldn't want to be daily driving as my main car.

So what exactly are you calling out?

You may not have noticed, but this a thread was about a Suzuki Jimny, or possibly a Jeep. You may enjoy someone incessantly telling everyone how there Nissan Navara v6 is a refined and nice place to be, then suddenly claim they didn’t say that, but I just see it as the acts of a lunatic attempting to self affirm his own beliefs. The chap isn’t here to discuss, he’s here make himself feel better about something and play the fool.

Again....it's a motoring forum incessantly taking about motors seems entirely appropriate.

There's always a 4x4 Panda.

Baja Bugs are one of the ones which always make me go... hmm I dunno, there is something both kind of cool and very wrong about them.

EDIT: Oh and there is an absolutely cursed one where someone mashed a 2CV and a Beetle together into a off-roader - unfortunately I can't find it from a quick search - it is absolute an abomination which should never have been allowed to happen.

All serious off-road based stuff is pretty hard to live with on road. I really don’t understand why people buy them as a main car. It’s the same with pick up trucks, absolutely terrible cars unless you need to carry pallets or something.

Because i get to look cool driving to the beach with the roof off
