svhost @ system startup

Have a PC that is dog slow on startup
Taken all the ***p off it and all those silly background programs but it really is hammering the harddrive when it starts, and looking at resource overview it would appear to be svhost that is doing it.
I mean 90%+ cpu usage and 80%+ hdd usage for about 4 mins!

Spec is vista 32bit, 2GB ram and E2140 CPU

Have you tried running msconfig, and looked at all the guff that is launching at startup?

What does your Task Manager say?

I have used msconfig and cleared all the dross it was loading and just left the main stuff like antivirus and main windows/graphics drivers.

Task manager shows nothing running!
Yet resource monitor clearly shows svhost running and accessing the harddirve.

Oh, I found an triangle next to a 6TO4 adaptor but have sorted that and no difference.
It seem to take ages to sort its ethernet address even though its on a router thats always on?!

Setting your PC up with a Static IP would fix ^^ problem.

I have heard of svhost being hijacked by viruses which would explain the high CPU/ HDD usage, is it at startup or all the time?
