Got the second of these games, is it worth getting straight into this one without having played the first one first or should i try and find the first one???

1st one was the better game but doesnt really make much impact on the immersiveness of either story as any bits that interlink are explained in dialog anyway

if you can and intend to get the 1st though, wait, its no fun knowing most of whats going to happen

my only complaint is, from what ive read, neither game likes vista, unless thats changed, i havent looked in a while hehe

Had Kotor 2 running happily under Vista.

I'd say you don't need to play them in order, though there are some references that aren't explained.

oo cool, can have a play again if i ever get fed up, never bothered with light side endings, its just so much fun not having to be nice

The second one was brilliant, right up to the last half hour of play, at which point you realise just how much they've cut it to get it finished.

It's a real kick in the teeth when the quality of the story is so high for most of the game.

Yes get the first one, you will hear a lot about the 1st one and it will spoil the game. Seeing you revist one of the planets in the first game in the second game. Not saying which of course, but i highly recommend playing the first one.

you revisit more than one.

I've just played through the first one and am quite a way through the 2nd. I'd say play the first one before the second, it's better and the second will tell you a lot about the first one that will ruin it.

The first one worked fine on vista, the was some major slowdown in certain areas, but found this solution:
"Go into your swkotor.ini file and open it as a text file. The file is located by default in C:\program files\lucasarts\swkotor. Add the line Disable Vertex Buffer Objects=1 somewhere under the [graphics options] section."

The second one's really strange, most of the time when I hit the shortcut I just get an error, but if I keep trying it will eventually just work. I think I disabled hardware sound or something too.

PLEASE play KOTOR 1 first!
It is a much better game. Yes it lacks some of the features of KOTOR 2, such as prestige classes etc, but these are not tht major, and the story is about 1,000,000,000,000,000 times better.
INcredibly immersive, better charcters, no stupidly gay annoying and rubbish tutorial / intor level which goes on for bloody hours like KOTOR 2 (it is so bad that there are mods out which allow you to skip it)

KOTOR 2 is a good game, but the ending sucked, and it was generally not even close to being as impressive as KOTOR 1.
KOTOR 1 is one of the finest RPGs available on PC IMO, with great graphics, a stunning story and superb characters, it is totally unmissable.
Plus it has one of the best and most gut wrenching twists in any story in any game I have ever played....

KOTOR 1 is a 10/10 game. KOTOR 2 is a 8/10 game. Play 1 then 2, be prepared to play 1 again and again, it's that good. That violent robot character is one of the best characters in the SW universe.

I do hope they make KOTOR 3.

Knight 1 is pure Classic... You HAVE to play the first one first, it will open the second story a bit better (plus the first one is WAY better)

You dont have to do the tutorial in KOTOR2 anyway, you talk to t3, and it skips, its AMAZING how many people don't pay attention to the game it self, there are literally HUNDREDS of ways to play both games, with more than 6 endings to the 1st and nearly 10 for the second one.

I do agree that, it got too rushed, and the left multiple stories out of it, but left some of them still in it, I suppose if Obsidian wanted to they could finish it, but as far as I'm aware all the content is there, it just hasn't been scripted for dialogue and there are a few triggers missing.

Plus you can turn everyone into Jedi.

Currently reliving the first KOTOR (only played it once before) but coming at it from the dark side angle - so much more fun!

On top of the fantastic story which was already mentioned, the voice acting despite being cheesy is still top notch, all lines of dialog are said out loud which is why i turned the subtitles off the second time round.

Even the graphics are not too shabby (even on my crappy mx440), nice shader effects and funky lightsaber fighting.

I'd definitely get the first one, a lot better game, despite lacking some nice features of the second.

Get them both and play them in order :)

the second one didn't have a "new items" filter for the inventory, that was just annoying, and the whole GUI was like flipped over, just to be annoying.

Cartho, if I were you I'd delete the last line of your text. it's kind of a spoiler even though it's not. I read things like that before playing KOTOR1 and it does make a big difference.
