Swap from 980ti to Fury-X?

Hi all,

I recently changed my monitor for a 1440p 144Hz freesync monitor. At present I have a 980ti, which handles everything I play very well.

At this point I am set on saving my money for AMDs big VEGA chip when it releases, but for the time being, would I see any benefit from obtaining a fury-x (Assuming I can make the exchange without costing myself anything using the members market or similar) in order to use the freesync capabilities of my monitor. (I also quite like the idea of having an AIO cooler)

I plan on playing a lot of Overwatch when it releases and would like to get my hands on Doom 4 in the near future as well. (I mostly play FPS games and DOTA2)

TL: DR is a potential small performance hit in average fps worth taking for freesync?

Heck no! Id wait until Vega seriously!

Right on the heels of new gen cards and the fury x is a side grade with it being sometimes slightly slower game to game.

I went from a 4K non Freesync monitor and a 980Ti to a 4K Freesync monitor and Fury Pro (Non X) and the difference Freesync makes was worth it.

It doesn't matter that the 980Ti was ~20%+ faster because at 4K adaptive sync is giving a far smoother experience. For example Witcher 3 980Ti was giving ~45 FPS+ while at the same settings Fury is around 37+ and yet feels far smoother.

Post on MM for someone to swap your 980Ti for a Fury X and you might get a deal. Though make sure to specify 100% it must not have pump whine and ask for proof it is V2 pump.

Once you try FreeSync, you can't game without it. Same goes for any adaptive Sync technology. You have a FreeSync display, put it to use.

Thanks for the replies guys, I think I'll make a post on the MM and see if I can find anybody who wants to trade.

It sounds like it will be a nice temporary solution until October (Assuming vega comes out then) and I can see what all the fuss about sync technologies is all about.

What Matt said.

I used the 2730Z with 295X2 and the Nano (since January) for more than a year now.

I cannot go back to non-Freesync monitor. When I had the 2730Z sent back for repair, I had to use my old 2410T that used for many years (and the 3d vision glasses when I had the NV cards since 2006).
After the first hour, decided I will be better off not play any games, and use my PS3 and the TV downstairs.
The experience was horrible, having been used to smooth gaming.

@DazQ87, if you can find someone to trade the 980Ti with a FuryX (V2 pump) you will not regret it. I have an overclocked & watercooled Nano and I love it more even than the mighty 295X2 (again overclocked) or all the NV cards I had over the years, (780, 580, 560, 9800GT, 8800GTX, 7950GX2 list is long).
It chews and spits anything I throw at the Nano. (which is a FuryX core)

I'd be all over a Fury X if there was a Freesync ultra-wide faster than 75Hz. I guess we'll be waiting a while before faster panel tech and AMD release cards with DP 1.4 that can run them to the max. Which will be VEGA I am guessing.

Agree on this.

If you didn't have a Freesync display I'd say not bother, but it's really worth the switch since you do.

Bought a acer predator 1440p 144hz freesync monitor for my CF Fury x's, sold them, bought a 980Ti, still using the monitor, can't say I regret it, fps are much better especially when the Ti is overclocked and the lack of freesync honestly I've not noticed or at least got used to it not being there.

I used a pair of Ti's with an MG279Q for a couple of weeks and that was pretty fantastic (I limited the fps to 143) tbh, although probably due to lack of input lag etc :)

Bit of topic but, how did you find the MG279Q Jedi? What was your experience. Was it any good? Apart from possible backlight issues and ips glow was there any other issues?

I assume you never got to try Freesync with it?

I wish I had a freesync monitor to see what all the fuss is about. I got 144hz instead. Was that a mistake?

You can live with all the tearing etc and you are achieving ~144fps you are fine. Or if you can leave with the vsync input lag, then again is fine (but doesn't resolve all issues)
