Swapfile on spare old drive?

I have a working 10GB HDD spare that I've put in an external caddy and use in a hopelessly disorganised manner for imaging my OS partition, just in case.

I was thinking about using it internally solely for a swapfile for WinXP.

Would the performance benefit of having my swapfile on a different drive offset the performance loss of having it on a much slower drive?

My main drive is SATA. This old drive is IDE and I'd have it as the only drive on a cable.

Opinions welcome.

I'm sure its 5400RPM & maybe older UltraDMA if not PIO mode-type drive, right? If so, it will not only be slow but slow down the system!

I agree with Brian, it'll show no performance boost and will probably actually slow things up. Stick with the SATA drive and bin the 10GB drive.
