Swapped to wired and wont go above 10Mbps !

hi there,
ive just gone from wireless connection to wired, straight to my router and i dont seem to get any more than 10mbps as apposed to 54mbps from my wireless card :confused:

also the ethernet port number on ther router is orange :confused:

can anyone help me with this ?

its orange because its connected at 10mb not 100mb, check in the device properties on the card that its set to auto negotiate speed and not 10mb

im not using the card though, im using the on board ethernet port, how do you change that to 100 ?? thanks

As he said, go into Device Manager and under Network Adapters, go to the properties of your Network Card then Advanced tab. On there should be Link Speed (or similar name) which may be set to 10 or Auto.. make sure this is set to 100 Full Duplex.

Same way, go into device manager, into the properties of your network card and I think its Link Speed set that to auto

i bet i seem like a fool but is it in the properties of the card and then the advanced tab ?
i can see the speed and duplex bit on the ethernet port properties just not the card ??

Network Card = Ethernet Port.

Just change it for the adapter you're having problems with. This has nothing to do with the wireless card or its settings.

ooh ok, i changed the speed on the ethernet to 100mbps full duplex,but it still is constantly at 10 ??

You might have a faulty ethernet cable, this happened to me recently and swapping with a new cable saw me at 100mbs.

go from 10mbps full duplex to 100mbps full duplex and internet doesn't work !

after sorting some things out on a previous thread i thought i would open this to try and get more advice on this matter as this title is now the new issue.

anyway, i try to change the link speed & duplex to 100mbps and the internet just does not work and says its disconnected :confused:

Have you tried different ports on the router, or another PC connected to the router?

It's possible that the router is limiting the speed to 10Mbps. What model is it?

netgear wireless N ADSL2+ modem router,
i tried different ports, and i have another pc connected but i need to find the isp username and password first before i can try it.

Well is it, or isn't it? Is it connected at 100Mbps? If it is, then it's your PCs fault. If it isn't, then it's the router's fault.

It could be auto negotiating to 10mpbs if it cannot connect at 100 due to the cable.

there shouldn't be, but it's always worth trying another cable if available as that way you rule out a damaged/faulty cable

(same way it's handy to keep a spare nic etc)
