Swapping board on a Harddrive

HI,

my hard drive recently failed. Through some troubleshooting I'm fairly sure it's a burnout or some other issue with the exterior board.

The failed hard drive is a Seagate 500GB; 7200.10 series.

does anyone know if the board on a 500GB 7200.11 series would be compatible to the point where I could swap the board over to hopefully recover the stuck data?

thanks.

ok - so - to expand the question a bit...

what about any other hard drive within the 7200.10 series... would the boards be compatible between them or does the hard drive also have to be same capacity/no. of platters etc?

I very much doubt if a 7200.11 board would work, as it needs to be *exactly* the same - not just the same drive make/model, but running the same firmware to stand any chance of success.

It might be worth having a look on Fleabay, and if you find a 500GB 7200.10 you could contact the owner and see if the firmware matches (the details should be on the label on the drive's top cover). Don't throw good money after bad in a hit-&-hope exercise though.
