Swapping cpu's

The reason I ask is that i got an Asrock Z68 PRO3 GEN3 motherboard for a friend and an i5 3570k ivybridgw CPU but it wont post. Apparently in oprder to use an Ivybridge processor you have to flash the bios to the newer version to ensure compatibility.
So what i was thinking of doing is to just let him have my i5 2500k and send hes one back to be replaced with another i5 2500k which i will then use with my set-up.
