ok guys im about to build a new rig. everything is new apart from ill be taking one of my old hd's out of another rig. the hd is basically full of media (music and video) there are no applications installed on it. its connected via IDE to my old rig at the mo.

will i just be able to take this hd out of old rig and stick it into my new rig? will windows recognise it straight away? also although its connected via ide at the moment, i think it has a sata connector on there, can i just use that in the new rig?

cheers

You shouldn't have any major problems adding the drive into a new machine. The usual issues are that the drive might need imported as a foreign drive in Disk Management but that's a one click fix or the files may have security restrictions on them but that's easily rectified too.

When you say it's currently connected by IDE but has a SATA connector is this a SATA drive that you're using with a convertor block?
