now all my life i have never understood widescreen... to me a 20" widescreen looks smaller than a 19" normal screen so im guessing i need a little convincing here :) basically as i know nothing about dells i want to know if this will be good for my needs which are hi resolution gaming and watching movies / TV and how much extra money i should give (as i dont know how much a second hand 2005FPW is worth...)

im thinking about swapping it + some cash for a Dell 2005FPW

The 20" has more pixels so its actually bigger. The 19" is the same as a 17" TFT with 1280x1024 (just with larger pixels to make the actually screen itself look bigger) and the 20" is 1680x1050.

The height of the 20" will be slightly larger than the 19" (desktop space wise, but if you measured it with a ruler the 19" would be bigger by about an inch I think), and obviously the 20" WS is a lot wider!

edit: Dont forget that watching a movie on your 19" you will have large black bars on the top/bottom of the movie whereas on a 20" its reduced by quite a bit so it will appear a lot bigger.

What do you use your PC for?

If you do any design/development work using something like Photoshop or Visual Studio then Widescreen is a must have as far as I'm concerned. I prefer it over dual monitor!!

Got...or had the same screens :)

I went from dual sharp LL191's to dual hans gruber 19" Widescreens. The difference and desktop space is quite scary. DVD's look a lot better too and webpages feel like they belong on widescreens.

Before and after

It's an episode of Friends :p I had a nightmare trying to sell my sharp's. Managed to sell one for £90 but am still trying to get rid of the second. Hardly anyone wants 17" screens nowadays!
